Just received this alert through http://www.awbansunset.com

S.659, the bill that limits junk lawsuits against the firearm industry, will be coming to the floor of the Senate in a month or so. It is almost a certainty that Sen. Feinstein & Co. will attempt to amend the bill with a renewal of the so-called "assault weapons" ban. While it is likely that this "poison pill" amendment, if passed, will not make it through the House/Senate conference committee nor survive a final vote in the House (potentially killing the junk lawsuit bill), we have an opportunity to STOP the ban renewal in the Senate.

A vote on this issue in the Senate would be very close, but could go either way. We need every single vote we can get. Please take just a moment to call both of your Senators, urging them to oppose S.1034 (the standalone bill that renews and slightly expands the 1994 "Assault Weapons" Ban) or any attempt to amend a ban renewal to S.659, the junk lawsuit preemption bill. Even if one or both of your Senators are known to be anti-gun, it doesn't hurt to remind them of how unpopular this issue is.

You can quickly locate your Senators' phone numbers here:

http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_info...enators_cfm.cfm

Defeating a ban renewal in the Senate, which is acknowledged as not being nearly as pro-gun as the House, would be an undeniably huge victory for us. Do your part to ensure we win this opening skirmish in the battle to keep the 1994 Clinton semi-auto ban from being renewed. Call your Senators NOW (and encourage your friends to do so too).

Lionhart,

Thanks for the scoop. I will be contacting my senators. I may remind them every other week or so just so they get the message. EVERYBODY ELSE, PLEASE DO THE SAME!!!!We have to start winning this battle now. Get all your friend involved!!

Just wanted all of you to know that at this point I have not heard anything from Sean Hannity concerning the e-mail I sent him (posted here for all to see) concerning the assault weapons ban. If I ever do hear anything, I will let you know.

Ya know Lionhart, It's too bad the senators that we have here (cantwell and murray) are such anti-rights freaks that they probably have their secretarys etc. delete/cutup all calls, emails, letters that are pro- firearms rights..Just to say that we (the voters) don't care how the AWB vote goes..But, it is always a very good idea to call, write and email your senators regardless of what their party affiliation and their stand on the firearms rights "issue"is...

mp40, your Senators can't be worse than mine (Chuck Schumer and Hilary Clinton), which isn't saying much! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/mad.gif Well, at least Chucky is up for reelection this year. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif Regards, Walter

No Walter, they are not as bad, but they are just as stupid...Sadly, there is no way to un-seat Chucky boy I think. But, still I say: depose the dictator! It never hurts to dream though.

Hi 427 sohc, welcome to the boards! yes, I also hope that we can truly "win" this one! The problem is though, how do we keep "them" from doing this again next time! Fighting gun-control is a never ending struggle! By the way, do you have a Ford Single Overhead Cam 427? Ah, 660 HP out of the crate!

I think we can win this, if we all stick together and vote consistently to remove people from political office, in this nation, who do not respect the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif Write to your local, State, and Federal representatives, letting them know how you feel about our Second Amendment being trampled on by self-serving politicians. Tell them of the consequences of not properly representing the interests of the American people. I am not normally a one issue voter, but I believe the elections of 2004 will be critical to the Second Amendment issue and conservative causes generally. Remember, without the Second Amendment, all the other freedoms and rights that we Americans cherish are in jeopardy. Freedom of speech and religion (conscience) come immediately to mind. Why else would Adolf Hitler have abolished gun rights (for civilians), only two years after coming to power? Our liberals want to control every aspect of our lives, just as the Nazis wanted to! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif Also, liberals are against life (pro abortion), which comes as no surprise. Without life and liberty, how, pray tell, are people to even hope for a 'pursuit of happiness'! Vote the immoral liberals out of office this year!! Let's change America for the better. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif Regards, Walter

P.S. The choice should be simple and straightforward: Freedom vs. Tyranny!

True Walter, we must band together on this issue! There are many people out there that don't believe that elected officials will ever move to collect our firearms when the time comes. Let's not let it ever get to the point that we have to use our Thompsons,MP40's etc for anything but collecting, plinking etc.....Also, many people out there that believe that they don't need to act because they just don't care because they "wont be affected" because they don't own a bad gun! The liberals don't care that you are an up-standing person, with a life, they just know that you are an impediment to their carefully laid plans for a gun-free utopia..IF you have an bolt action rifle with a scope they call it a super-accurate sniper rifle! A single shot .22? who knows? to them, It's still just a killing device..

Everyone, I feel that it's my duty to keep all of us posted on this very important issue. We ALL must do our part to ensure our freedoms from those who wish to take them away! MP40, within the last couple of months I have written numerous letters to both Cantwell and Murray, and I hope others in our State have also. Let's all get involved NOW, and beat the Anti-Gun crowd and their agenda! It's a battle that NONE of us can afford to lose. Edited by LIONHART

I agree. Campaign Finance reform has put limits on when we can make public statements, (1st Amendment) and the AWB is attacking the 2nd. Next could be arrest w/o due process (4th) If Diane Feinstein and co have their way, we could ALL be locked up for owning what we bought legally! Isn't that called an Ex-Post Facto Law?

I agree with Lionhart. This subject, while political, does impact the gun owning public, and that would include every member of this board. After all, this is www.machinegunbooks.com, not some site about Teddy Bears. The gun issue (Second Amendment) is extremely political. Guns and politics/ government can not be separated. If you care about your gun collection, you should care about the Second Amendment and how it is being dismantled by the liberals. Are we going to sit comfortably on our duffs, or are we going to do something about it!! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/mad.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif Regards, Walter

P.S. What better place could there be to organize to defeat gun-hating politicians and laws, than on a site dedicated to gun owners and their toys. If you don't value your toys (guns), then maybe you are right, we should eliminate politics from gun collecting discussion boards. Then the liberals can go on and turn us into another place like Australia or England, where gun owning is very limited. I know we would all feel a lot safer when we can't own guns, but izzy the terrorist, rufus the drug dealer, and john the rapist can!!! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif

OK, I'm in. Just called both of them.

I live in Nevada, in an area where I can fire my M1 out the back door (scares hell out of the coyotes)

I worked many a year in Silicon Valley to be able to live free. I hope all those on the board can do the same.

But, like others have said before me; don't sit - vote!

I just got this back from Richard Lugar. He is on our side.

Dear Mr. Hensley:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the issue of gun control and the

reauthorization of the semiautomatic assault weapons ban, which sunsets on

September 13, 2004.

I support the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens to possess

firearms for sporting, collecting, and defensive purposes, and I support Indiana

law related to the purchase and ownership of firearms.

I also believe law enforcement should endeavor to keep guns out of the

hands of convicted felons. Since my days as Mayor of Indianapolis, I have

favored background checks for the purchase of firearms as a tool to target

criminal possession of guns. I have supported movement to an effective instant

check system as rapidly as possible so that checks will not delay the vast

majority of gun purchases that are legitimate. I also oppose maintaining

permanent records created by the checks.

I have noted your position on this issue and will closely follow the progress of

any movement to reauthorize the semiautomatic assault weapons ban. Thank you,

again, for contacting me.

Sincerely,

Richard G. Lugar

United States Senator

Gosh, I hate politicians!

Please note that he did not say he would oppose the re authorization of the AWB. Oft times what they don’t say is more important than what they do.

  • 2 weeks later...

Received this email today.

I've noticed that in many of the response letters from elected officials that people have forwarded to me, they say something along the lines of "rest assured, I will oppose H.R.2038 / S.1431" while not specifically saying they will also oppose a Feinstein-style renewal of the ban.

This doesn't necessarily mean that there's anything devious going on... after all, no House version of S.1034 (the Feinstein/Schumer bill that renews the ban, with some additional restrictions on imported magazines) has been introduced yet, and not specifically stating an opposition to Feinstein's renewal of the ban doesn't necessarily mean they would support it. But still, as we continue to call and write letters to our elected officials, we need to be certain to make it absolutely clear that we oppose ANY effort to expand or renew the ban, not just the draconian McCarthy/Conyers/Lautenberg ban.

H.R.2038, and its Senate companion bill, are serving their purpose well. These bills have no chance of being passed, existing primarily as a diversion to distract gun owners into focusing our efforts on defeating this radical expansion of the ban, and also to frame Feinstein's ban renewal as a more "moderate" compromise.

Neal Knox reports that it is very likely that the latter tactic will be employed in the Senate during the upcoming debate on S.659, the junk lawsuit protection bill that already has already passed in the House and has the support of a majority of Senators.

The battle for the renewal of the AWB begins in about 3 weeks... writing letters is always a good idea, but right now it's not enough. Please take just a moment to CALL both of your Senators, voicing your opposition to amending a renewal of the so-called "assault weapons" ban to S.659. Fortunately, we have the facts on our side... the firearms that are the subject of this ban were never used in significant numbers even before the ban took effect, and, contrary to the blatantly false statements we see in the media and in anti-gun press releases, these guns do NOT fire any faster and are no more powerful (and in many cases, are much less powerful) than traditional-looking semiautomatics.

You can easily locate your Senators' phone numbers here:

http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_info...enators_cfm.cfm

Defeating the ban in the Senate would be a stunning blow to the anti-gun lobby. Do your part by making sure your Senators know your stance on this issue.
