I looked at the form for a GL GG and it indicates the manufacturer and/or importer is US.  I was expecting to see Guide Lamp Division of GM.

What does that mean exactly?   Reimported? Remanufactured?     US seems rather broad or generic, assuming that means United States.

Any ideas/opinions?

Thanks, John

Not uncommon for odd manufacturers' names to show up. As long as it doesn't list a C2 manufacturer like Erb, Flemming etc your probably ok. Also if it isn't the original mfg it won't transfer as a C&R.

I have had some real strange manufacturers, calibers etc show up on my ATF eforms inventory.

All the German C&Rs I have owned either have Germany or German military in that block, none list the original German manufacturer.  As Frank said above you see some odd ones listed in that block.

Yep, my Sten lists England as the manufacturer, MKII as the model.

Yes, Ideally that's what I like to see in there.  It sounds like a lot of them don't though.

Best way to find out the status of a MG in regards to its classification in the NFRTR. Is to file a FOIA request. We do it with all of our NFA. We have an Amnesty registered Beretta 38/42 picked up in 1944. In the manufacturer or Imported by states German.

Whether the original registrar may have not known the original manufacturer or it was not imported. The weapon made its way back and was registered stateside. I would gather that whomever acquired our Beretta in 1944, may have picked it in Germany. The possible scenarios are many.

We have a bring back MP40 documented on a Form 6 as a deactivated registration. It is listed as a product of the German government.

Sometimes the weapon is listed in the NFRTR as a Form 2 manufacture and it is or should be a C&R. Example, we sold an Ingram Police Model 6 to a C&R holder. It was kicked back to us asking for what we may provide to substantiate its status as a C&R.
We provided a copy of the original Form 2 from 1952 and the Form 5 showing a transfer to a LE agency in 1952.
Actually there were 2 Form 2s with the same SN, just 3 months apart. Inthere lies the confusion. Maybe?
Since we were able to acquire copies that were redacted in part in a FOIA request. That should do it. Right. Its been almost 3 months and no reply.

So, the scenarios are many.

Many sales samples that we have acquired over the years were imported on a Form 2 and lists the manufacturer as US.

Just to be sure, I recommend filing a FOIA if you do not have a copy of the original registration.

Nice!  My M3 lists Guide Lamp.  Wish my M3A1 did too.  But I think I can still live with it! :)

That's interesting.  The original manufacturer, and also who reimported it back in the day?

I followed these guidelines for my recent FOIA request:   http://www.machinegu...?showtopic=5587

I don't know if it's the best or not, but looked like it covered all of the bases.  Have heard nothing yet.

Not uncommon for Pre May Sales Samples to list both the manufacturer and importer in the same box. IAC Imported Sales Samples in the 70s and eighties. Sometimes a Sales Sample is sold as a transferable and it is corrected down the road.

If you’re not sure or want to know as much as the original entry into the NFRTR. I recommend a FOIA request. Looks like some of the guys have done so.

The FOIA process saved us from purchasing an advertised C&R Guide Lamp M3A1 grease gun.

It was transferred to a dealer on a Form 4 from a former FFL/SOT. The results, it was a Sales Sample Imported in the early 1980s.

Best to error on the side of caution if you’re not sure.

Could you not have just asked to see the current tax stamp document? That is my current best-practice for not being screwed... again.

Since dealer transfers on eforms began all  types of odd manufacturer's are being listed. I have several Thompsons, they all list "Thompson" as a manufacturer. Others just say form 1 or form 2. I have an NESA PreMay BAR that has Auto-Ordnance as the mfg. None of my inventory on eforms has an address. This is causing a lot of concern for customers, but its nothing to worry about.
