WTB 14" Mossberg Conversion parts

Recommended Posts

Recently, as of April 2015 Mossberg no longer sells this conversion to civilians, was hoping a fellow board member with a ffl would be willing to put an order in and I'd be happy to pay an extra $60 for this "convenience" Will be doing the NON-NFA 14" build as seen

WHOA! My understanding -- but check this with an attorney or with the Lone Ranger -- is that unless you are starting with a receiver that is pristine, factory new, never assembled into a shotgun, you cannot purchase a shotgun and swap out parts and create an AOW. It becomes a short-barrel shotgun. Unless something has changed, rifles and shotguns are sort of like machine guns: once a rifle, always a rifle; once a shotgun, always a shotgun; once a machine gun, always a machine guns. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd rather have info from an attorney experienced in this area of law than relying on stuff on the 'Net.

Unless something has changed recently.

As long as the shotgun never had a stock installed when new from factory. For example: the Mossberg Cruiser pistol grip shotguns. Many Cruisers were converted to AOW. I have a Mossberg cruiser that I had converted to AOW by a Class II mfg. He was able to tell by the serial number that it was AOW worthy.

I am not a lawyer or an expert. And I know the ATF like to change the rules change over time.

Thanks. I should have gone further in following the links. Basically ATF Tech Branch is taking the position that a pistol gripped shotgun is not a "shotgun" under the NFA because under THAT Act, a shotgun is defined as one being capable of being fired from the shoulder. Is ATF getting gun-owner friendly? I remember (vaguely) quite a number of years ago a major legal battle involving the manufacture of (see if I got this right) Harvey-modified pistols. For those who are MUCH younger, I recall that Harvey was boring out the rifling in S&W large frame pistols and increasing or swapping out the cylinders so these pistols would fire a shotgun shell (.410 maybe?). Can't recall if the broo-ha-ha was over their being classed as an AOW or as a short barrel shotgun. Guess Harvey won, but I don't think you see too many Harvey pistols on the market. Now we have the Judge (Taurus).
