New Remington Model 8

Recommended Posts

Finally picked up a Remington model 8 that showed up at a local gun shop, manufactured in Feb, 1929. Now I'm on the hunt for some .35 Rem ammo I can't wait to try it out. :D

Thanks for the comments gents. I took the gun to the range today for the first time and found the gun very accurate out to two hundred yards. I do have an issue with the magazine, one it was very difficult to load and found the shell was sitting too low causing the bolt to not pick the round and feed it to the chamber. I'm not certain if its a magazine spring issue or the magazine lip's that hold the shell in place, I plan on breaking down tomorrow to seen if I can find the problem. If anyone had a similar issue please chime in.

Thanks, Andy

Andy,

Never had that problem with my guns.

Does the bolt fail to pick up a round on all 5 rounds or only the 5th round, the last shot.?

The face of the bolt actually rides below the feed lips to pick up the round, does it on yours.?

Your gun has a single magazine side spring on the right side of the mag. make sure its not broken and positioned correctly.

Its possible to tweek a M14 stripper clip so you can load 5 rds at a time, just like charging an 03 springfield.

Best of luck tomorrow , let us know how you make out.

We have had two model 8's come into the shop with problems with feeding ... Both had the magazine springs installed incorrectly ... They were either upside down or backwards ... My old memory can't recall which, but once my son installed the springs correctly the rifles had no feed issues.

Guys thanks for the help, I have corrected the feeding issue's. The follower had some burr's towards the back side of the magazine so I cleaned them up and I changed the spring around in the magazine. The cartridge sit's correctly now in the magazine and the bolt picks up the shell with no problem.

Jim the bolt wouldn't pickup any of the rounds yesterday in less I pushed the cartridge forward slightly each time.
