A Soldiers Christmas

Recommended Posts

I realize that this is way off topic about the firearms we collet and shoot, but I thought I would share this with all of you at this special time of year ...

I wrote this poem about soldiers at war back in 2005 when my son was deployed to Afghanistan, and spent Christmas Eve on top of a snowy mountain along the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan ...

Gathered with families 'round Christmas trees bright

Familiar old carols give peace to the night

Snug in warm houses, safe from all harm

Do you think of the soldier alone in the storm?

He sits on a mountain, blown by the winds

Far from his home, his family, his friends

He bows to the snow stinging his face

Forgotten by most in this far away place

He's been many places far from his home

The Argonne, Belleau Wood, New Guinea, Bastogne

Bataan, the Hürtgen, Saipan, and Incheon

The Yalu, and Chosin, Ia Drang, and Khe Sanh

Fallujah, and Bagdad, Takur Ghar, Nad-e-Ali

Shin Kalay, Lashkar Gah, and the Korengal Valley

He's there for his country, he answered the call

To preserve with his life the freedom of all

So pause for a moment this holiday season

Give thanks for your blessings, reflect on the reason

That your family about you and all that you own

Is preserved as a gift from a soldier unknown
