Baltimoreed11754
My gun is a 1991 vintage WH 1927 A1 Thompson. My first Thompson but I did put 100 rds through a rented M1A1 years ago. Ive got some dumb questions about its operation. [Hasnt arrived yet. And I cant wait.] And assuming there are no other issues with the seller, shipping or gun.Does the bolt bottom out against the recoil spring guide normally? Or does it bottom out on the springs? Or not at all? Can a buffer be used with the original but cut down a few coil springs? Once my EZ springs and buffer [on back order] are installed will the bolt bottom out against the buffer then? What is the diameter of the recoil springs? Should the buffer be relieved so the springs are against the guide? Has anyone ever experimented with a double recoil spring? Im thinking a flat spring around the recoil springs, like the double recoil springs on a Detonics 1911. My standard .45 load for all my 1911s, revolvers and AR.45 pccs is a mild 4.5 gr of Red Dot with a 200 gr rnfp cast or pc bullet. Thoughts? Update Ive gotten some mags, altered and original and ordered recoil springs and buffer material from McMaster Carr. The Thompson was delayed and is supposed to arrive Monday now.
