'28 Bolt Oiler

Recommended Posts

would one of these work on a '27?

anybody else ever thought about it?

just looking at the pics of the oiler and comparing to a '27 receiver, it looks like it might.

you really can't have it TOO lubed can you? short of it dripping oil of course.

Brian,

I don't really think the '27A1 needs a breech oiler. The breech oiler was deleted with the deletion of the Blish lock in the M1 and M1A1 versions of the Thompson. The Blish lock likes to be kept very oily.

I use Colt T-6 grease (which appears to be nothing more than overpriced thin white grease) on the inside of the receiver and on the outside of the bolt of my M1A1. Seems to work okay. May even slow the rate of fire a tad. I've never timed it.

Others may have other experiences and opinions. Individual results may vary. And so on.

Rock on!

The main purpose of the breech oiler for 21/28 models was to oil the lock. There is no lock in a 27a1, and the receiver has not been machined in such a way as to accept it, in any event.

The 27a1 bolt velocity is high and quite forceful, over oiling would not be advisable IMHO.
