Reising Blues Update

My Reising (first FA) was malfunctioning with every mag. After going through the stages of frustration, anger, etc, I took to heart the expert advice in this forum which said I had a magazine problem, I ordered a new mag well. Night and day difference! 20 rnd factory mag dumps and semi fire flawlessly. Comparing the old and new mag wells told the story: the tabs were bent and the mag opening was oversize. I also ordered new springs for the gun and mags - much stronger bolt closure. New mag springs helped as well. Haven't replaced any internal springs, but will soon.

The Christie 30 rounders still have problems. The first 5 to 7 rounds are held too flat, so they hit the mag well front. Subsequent rounds feed perfectly. I think a small adjustment should do it.

Did have failures due to ammo. 2 rounds had high primers and didn't fire. Not high enough to cause slamfires, but enough that the firing pin energy is partially wasted pushing in the primer. I've had this happen before; my press needs adjustment. And the ammo seems not quite hot enough: 5 grains of Bullseye, 230 gr bullet. This is a low to moderate load that is fine with pistols. I've read in this forum that one poster uses this exact load with no issues - but with the new recoil spring, a little more horsepower will help. I've reloaded ammo for 48 years and despite occasional glitches, am fine with it. Though running the numbers shows the cost savings only 3-4 cents per round; not sure the time needed is worthwhile. If the cost of the 1000 to 2000 rounds per year is an issue, I need to avoid FA.

So, thanks to all the posters in this forum who helped me keep motivated to get this thing working.

Solved the final problem. My gun would go FA from semi by itself. I noticed that the selector spring which hasva fold on the center, was outside in. The fold was facing out. After turning it over, problem solved. Now it runs like a Lamborghini. With 30 round mags, I can turn $10 bills into a few seconds of music without interruption.

Thanks to all on the site who counseled persistence and offered solutions.

I read your post and looks like I'm having the same problems you did.The gun is a very nice first year production former PD gun, blued, which is 90% plus. The only thing that works well is the Keystone/ Christies 30 round mags with only 20 loaded on full auto. Can you tell me where you got the magazine springs and the new mag well? THANKS MC

Sorry for the slow response. Got mag springs from Keystonearms.com. They have a good selection of Reising parts - probably best I've found. If you're interested in my experience with my Reising, look at my posts (and the replies) in Reising Blues.
