Home Made Spare Parts Kit Box

Recommended Posts

I'm not good for DIY, so please be indulgent : Pay more attention to the idea than the result ;)

This is a 5" x 8" tin box, used to present the advance parts needed for precaution.

first difficulty is to cut the emplacements, not easy with soft foam.

Looks good. How did you do the lid?

Ordered online : they print a photo on an aluminum plate (you could add any text), that was apply on the standard cover.

but unfortunately the lid was not directly print

Ive been told that foam can hold moisture so check your parts once in a while for signs of rust.

Just buy a pack of Zerust plastabs and keep one underneath the parts.

No sign of any rust yet 🙂 (box is in a dry place)

Also I would like to present my other "Spare Part Box", inspired by the great Gordon Herigstad tin box. First please excuse the finish, I'm not very manual !

The idea was to create a spare part box that could fit in a regular XX pouch. I used a bad demiled XXX mag. It can content cleaning tools, tools and/or parts.

Very nice. A great use of a demil magazine. I would wrap everything in a cleaning rag so no rattles. I really like the 2-cell pouch. Thanks for sharing.

I digress, but what were those pouches actually produced for, I notice the date on it is 1945? I thought the only two cell pouches produced during WW2 were for the Colt .45 mags, and they were not the same size as Thompson XX mags.

I really do not remember where I found it years ago, It was sold as original, not repro, but I'm not enough specialist to be 100% sure.

That I know is that the threads are cotton, not synthetic, and it is different of some repro I saw.

More info welcome 🙂

Now that's a clever little job you've done there, good use of a bad mag!

I find the pouch interesting as well.  When I looked at the French web page for the knock of Cutts compensator, I see a similar mag pouch (I presume this page has a reproduction pouch), but I’d love to know more information about either pouch.

So far, all the reproductions i saw have the 2 holes placed lower, and no strap on the back.

Not sure, but it (the original) could be from eastern Europe
