New kahr 30 round mags may be bad

Recommended Posts

So I have a newer 1927 kahr gun here and a batch of new 30 round mags that the customer said all would jam. They all fit to low in the gun. They would slide up and down. The photo with the tape and pencil marks shows how much play they had. Low is bad of course. I checked the magazine catch, swapping it out with another kahr and even a GI and all had the same result. So it's definate the magazine hole is low in every one. Rather than weld and recut all the holes I decided to weld on the mag catch and reshape it so the magazines would fit up high where they are supposed to be. After that the gun ran perfect. A supplied new kahr 20 round mag did fit correct with the factory mag catch. After the alteration I had to enlongate the hole slightly before it would lock in place. The photo is actually taken after the alteration showing the desired correct height. The marks show low to high slop before mag catch mod. If you are having jam problems maybe check for this.

It is incredible that we are 20 years in now since Kahr bought it from Numrich W/H and they still have quality control issues. Clearly they have made some improvements over the years with a number of things, but really, the mag catch and hole still is an issue? I guess the idea of "GO, No Go" gauges was too simple, since they used that over 100 years ago.
