mitchell6776
I am looking a potentially purchasing a mark II, C&R Sten. Were any stens originally parkerized, or should it have a black suncorite coating over it? Is there a good reference online for the markings that will be present on the gun? Thanks

m3bobby
Mk 5 STENS were parked from manufacture and then Suncorited over the top except the barrel and bolt. Mk 1, 2 and 3 were browned but it appears many Mk3s may have been painted in Suncorite as an expedient.

m3bobby
It was a satin black paint with a heavy oil content. It has to be mixed really well and is still available on eBay but Henkel have now replaced it because of it being non PC!! Henkel are a manufacturing company and own other companies such as Loctite. huggytree
If its the same paint as a sterling I was told its toxic and not available anymore. Cerakote is your option
m3bobby
Its no longer produced in its original form as its Harmful but there is a modern replacement (so probably of no use). The original Suncorite is still available until stock is exhausted. Problem would be shipping! https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Loctite-Suncorite-259-Paint-for-militaria-restoration-guns-rifles-frame-Etc/173406217314?hash=item285fd0e462:g:0toAAOSwvBpbRkR4
johnsonlmg41
Toxic is a relative term. Shipping it is a problem since it's flammable and the original solvents were likely too "toxic" for today's uneducated fake green crowd. I've worked with phosgene gas, asbestos, large amounts of cyanide, and produced large quantities of diazomethane, but driving in the city seems much more risky since I can't address unknown hazards?
