Oldtrooper
I realize that this is way off topic about the firearms we collet and shoot, but I thought I would share this with all of you at this special time of year ... I wrote this poem about soldiers at war back in 2005 when my son was deployed to Afghanistan, and spent Christmas Eve on top of a snowy mountain along the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan ... Gathered with families 'round Christmas trees brightFamiliar old carols give peace to the nightSnug in warm houses, safe from all harmDo you think of the soldier alone in the storm? He sits on a mountain, blown by the windsFar from his home, his family, his friendsHe bows to the snow stinging his faceForgotten by most in this far away placeHe's been many places far from his homeThe Argonne, Belleau Wood, New Guinea, BastogneBataan, the Hürtgen, Saipan, and IncheonThe Yalu, and Chosin, Ia Drang, and Khe SanhFallujah, and Bagdad, Takur Ghar, Nad-e-AliShin Kalay, Lashkar Gah, and the Korengal ValleyHe's there for his country, he answered the callTo preserve with his life the freedom of allSo pause for a moment this holiday seasonGive thanks for your blessings, reflect on the reasonThat your family about you and all that you ownIs preserved as a gift from a soldier unknown~Steve ShacklefordDecember 2005
