Picked up a M12 "Trench"

Recommended Posts

I picked up a Model 1912 "Trench Gun" to compliment my Model 1897.

The 1897 is a World War I vintage with the original bluing and the hand stamped ordnance marks. Its beat up, but thats how I like them. The 1912 has been refinished because its now parkerized. I believe it was produced in 1943.

The M12 was also produced in a parked version later in the war. Don't know with which serial number that started. My own M12 has a beautiful commercial blue finish. The production date on M12s is on the flat on the bottom of the barrel just forward of the receiver. You should be able to read the date with a dental mirror and bright flashlight. Mine reads 1942.

Here's an M12 trench on Iwo Jima in 1945:

Ive tried looking, and I cant find where you are referring to.

Edit, I looked again and found what youre talking about. Looks like "43".
