bigred
I would like to know what the production dates were of the crude simple L shaped sights without the side guards. Does anyone know how long they were in production?
Ron Mills
Red: The "L" sights were 1st seen on the 1928A1's, starting with the Savage-produced guns, #400,000 range. They bore the "Lyman" stamp. After a meeting was held in December, 1941, it was decided to replace the sight with one sporting "protective ears". The "L" sight was prone to getting snagged on brush, vines, clothing, etc. It did continue onto the M1 model; but by June 1942 it was scrapped, and the new sight with "protective ears" started appearing on guns after July 1942 (Savage guns in the high 137,00 range). All this info, and TONS more, can be found in Frank's book, "American Thunder". Nevertheless, glad to help!
