Behind The Scenes Projects...

Recommended Posts

So I have been making loaders but just behind the scenes along with some other projects for some board members. I'm up to 89 loaders made and shipped out all over the country now.

I thought I'd post these projects up here since they have been both unique and challenging. Not to mention some really cool custom loaders.

These are the loaders. There is some great Hard Maple, Black Walnut, High Figure Maple and one of a kind Cocoabolo.

Here is the Thompson stand I did. By the members request I did the Colt and Thompson Logos in their true fonts and labeled it with his model and serial numbers as well. The stand is made from Black Walnut with the burnt lettering and red velvet at the contact points. Unfortunately the gun in the pictures is my Kahr and not the real '21 that lives on it now...

This is a chest for a M1918 30cal belt re-loader. For those of you not familiar this reloads the belts for the M1919 machine gun. A member sent me an original chest in beyond repair condition. I was able to salvage the original hardware and recreate the chest from new wood and matched oil paint colors. This was a blast to make and reverse engineer things from the past. As I write this though... I just got an email from the member I did this for and even with the what I though to be idiot proof packing job, the government proves again they can screw up even the most meaningless tasks, like delivering a box, and the U.S. post office managed to beat the hell out of this... Solution to follow...?

I plan to start making a new set of loaders here soon. If anybody wants something other than Hard Maple let me know.

That's pretty cool stuff. Have you noted the modifications to your Kahr on the Semi-Auto side of the forum? The trigger frame modified or is it a '28 frame fitted to the upper? If you already posted on the other side, hang a linky thingy, it looks really nice.

Very nice. Thank you for posting.

SUGGESTIONS: drop the number (#) symbol and add the letters "NO" as in NO 8724. That is how the serial number is roll stamped on the Colt's receiver. I would also use the word "Colt's" as that word is also roll stamped on the receiver and is the correct name of the company.

TD thanks for the suggestions. I only did as the member asked. Right or wrong I always let the customer make the astetic decisions so they are happy or disappointed in their own decisions. 😎

Thank you!

The trigger frame is the factory one from Kahr. You can find my post about all of the modifications here:

Jon,

You are quite a talented woodworker.

I'm also impressed to see the chest results. Looks just like mine...

David

Thanks David. I couldn't have done it without your picture of the stenciling. I'll post some pictures sometime of what the Post Office did to it in delivery... The member is going to send it back to me after he returns from Knob Creek. Made me so sick to see it...🤢🤮

Got some beautiful pieces there! I've always thought of doing repro boxes/crates. The problem is usually sourcing correct hardware.

Those new loaders are beautiful, kind of jealous that mine is just plain maple.

Maybe you ,could make USMC transit cases?

It's been great doing the unique ones. I'm at 89 sold right now. Big plans for when I get to 100!

I probably could do those if I had one to reverse engineer or good plans to follow...
