AIN AR10

Kicking around picking up a Sales Sample AR10. Ive seen one that was a Sudanese contract as well as a couple of the Guatemalan contract ones. I have not seen any for sale that were the second generation Portuguese contract rifles.

The couple on GB are at an asking or opening bid of 12.5k. Not having any documentation on how many are in the NFRTR, I couldnt make an informed comment on the asking price. I understand that IAOC purchased a bunch of the Guatemalan contract rifles. Not certain if they Imported all of them or not.

Dont really see them at any shows.

I would surmise by what I have read, that there are enough that we imported as sales samples to not place them in the rare category.

I have sold a bunch of Sales Samples in the past year. One has to price them at current market value.

Cannot see paying more than $10k

Any insight would be appreciated.

Wait and you will find one at $10K. Several have sold in the last year near that price.

Essentially all of the presample AR10s are Guatemalan and I have seen only one Portuguese sample gun (Stern auction). There were about 300 Guatemalan AR10s but most were parted out. Back in the day an intact Guat AR10 went for less than a semiauto kit gun.

I count 40 presample Guats in my database, and I'll bet there are another 40 out there.

Coolness. Figured that 10k would be about right. I did see one, supposed, Sudanese one listed on Strum, did not receive any more information. The lot was sold as part of a no law letter/dropping his SOT list. Apparently, someone bought the entire list, including a few Pre Mays and maybe, one or so transferables...

Thanks

  • 2 weeks later...

Looking forward to taking it out.

I do not have any range time with the above listed firearms.

I did kick around getting an M14, even went in as so far as handling a Smith Enterprise M14.

Did not shoot it, did not fire up my enthusiasm for it.

I have had a AC556, not for me, figured that the M14 is the big brother to it.

I have had a couple of BARs along the way, that is about my experience with a 30 cal shoulder fired machine gun.

This AR10 is by far the lightest 30 cal weapon that I’ll shoot from the shoulder.

We’ll see, till them...

Take the time to check/adjust the gas setting. The recoil should not be bad at all.

Closely inspect the bolt lugs and also the lugs on the barrel extension. Those narrow lugs are the most probable point of failure.

Great information...

I spent the money and made time to purchase and read the book, (The Armalite AR-10 The World’s Finest Battle Rifle.)

Authored by, Joesph Putman Evans from Collector Grade Publiications.

Well researched and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the story of this rifle...

Thanks All

Agree, really is the bible of the AR10. The only part that wore out was the gas rings. Luckily new rings were available.

Looked over the rifle.

Took it out and to say the least. I am impressed...

Very controllable weapon, even in full auto.

Looks like it was a LE Ordnance out of Athens, GA import.

Not sure if they are around anymore in some capacity?

I’ll try and attach some photos.
