Phil Askew Posted April 4, 2006 Report Share Posted April 4, 2006 I know another wild goose chase, but I was talking to someone at a Ford swap meet about guns and he said his grandfather left him a Thompson with 2 drums. One L and a C drum in the box and swears its a 21 Colt. Just in case, does anyone have an original box and can e-mail me a pic? He said the drums are numbered. I would bet there aren't many original cardboard drum boxes from the Colt era around. I know I've never seen one or even seen a picture of one. I would imagine it would be similar to the cardboard corrugated drum boxes that WWII era Auto-Ordnance drums were shipped in, but then again who knows. Good luck on your find. dalbert Posted April 8, 2006 Report Share Posted April 8, 2006 Phil, I saw an original L-Drum new in the box in a private collection this past weekend. The box showed its age, and the drum was brand new. Send me an e-mail, and I'll forward it to the collector to see if they would be willing to send you a picture. I don't know if the C-Drum cardboard box is the same, but I believe this collector has seen one of them also, and might be able to help you to determine authenticity. The L-Drum box is in two parts. As I remember, it has a cardboard piece that folds around the drum, with the middle exposed, and the sides exposed. The drum and inner box are then slid into another cardboard piece with 2 open ends, and when they are combined, the drum is completely surrounded with cardboard. They go together kind of like closing a drawer. That is what I recall, anyway. Everyone, I've moved to Ohio now. I've had very limited access to the internet so far, so I apologize that I have not been on the board much. Made a deal on a house in Liberty Township yesterday, and we will be moving into that house in June. I'm in corporate housing until then. I have the serial # of the drum as well as photos of the box and drum. If anyone wishes me to email them, send me your email address and I'll send the photos to you.
