In front of the magwell on the bottom of the receiver is one option, or the barrel-especially if your doing a smooth barrel, then you can hide the engraving under the horizontal handguard. These are two options I've heard. Also of course the receiver. Near the patent info or the otherside. This of course only looks decent if the fonts match perfectly IMO.

Everyone seems to suggest GI, but I'm still planning on trying a new production kahr 10.5" barrel.

For what it's worth...

The reason people suggest GI or even Green Mt. barrels is the difference in steel quality and build quality. The Kahr barrels are made nowhere close to the original specs. To many fins, fins and barrels are not the correct dia., and the chambers are setup and reamed like a 1911 not a machine gun. I think that is where some of the feeding problems stem from in the Kahr and maybe even the W.H. guns. The steel is of lower quality on the Kahr barrels and the rifling on mine from the factory was rough as hell when compared to my now Green Mt. barrel.

Just to show the difference in profile, the two pictures below show a Green Mt barrel (which is made to GI specs) in both an original WWII fore-grip and a Kahr fore-grip that was profiled to my original Kahr barrel. You really can see the giant gap in the Kahr grip due to the larger profile of the Kahr barrels...

^i thought they have new manufactured barrels that they make in house?

That is correct. I have never seen any reviews regarding quality, here or otherwise.

On the other hand... I can personally attest to the Green Mt. quality as can other members here.

If you can't end up finding a GI this would be a good and inexpensive alternative.

Hello... on the topic of the Thompson SBR, is there someone that you could recommend for doing the barrel swap? I have a completed form 1 and the guy I had lined up is no longer doing the work.

I believe that a couple board members - Reconbob (noted above as a WWII vintage barrel source) and Deerslayer - both used to do barrel swaps. I'd check with them.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the information. I sent Phili Ordnance an email through their website so hopefully they will respond. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is Deerslayer Dan Block? He was referred to me by a friend. I have poked around on the Internet for an email for him and came up empty. I will try and reach out to him on this site.

kinger,

Whoever you get I would change out the front grip mount. Change it to a military style one piece that is also 1/2" . You probable have a 3/4" and two piece on it know. You would have to buy a front grip. Buy a military or have Dan make you one.

That would take care of your barrel for good. Then you only have to put military lower to have a good looking semi.

Good luck

Frank

Yes, deerslayer is Dan Block. Great guy to deal with. I got my EZ-pulls from him.

If you decide to go Franks suggestion and get a WWII or Dan Block grip... reconbob (Phila Ordnance) also makes repro 1/2" grip mounts.

I have one on my gun and it is made to outstanding quality.

If you put a 1/2' grip mount and you have a 3/4" the groove in the wood will be to wide for the 1/2" mount. Most of the semi's have 3/4 grip mounts. I have a early WH pistol that has a 1/2" grip mount but its the 2 piece. If I changed out the barrel I would put a one piece grip mount on it. The 2 piece mounts get loose or brake off.

Thanks for the information... mine has a 1/2", one piece grip hanger. I am just waiting for Phili Ordnance to respond to my barrel inquiry so I can complete the purchase. Then it is off to Dan for the barrel swap.
