M1 Thompson Sbr

Recommended Posts

Hey guys-

I'm an avid WW2 enthusiast and now reenactor. I currently own a Springfield made M1 rifle, but am looking to purchase an M1 Thompson SBR. I found one for sale at impact guns http://www.impactguns.com/store/M1SBR.html for about $1,300. My question here is this...what exactly would I need to do (paper work wise) to order a SBR? I can't seem to find a clear answer from the ATF website, and I want to have all my ducks in a row before I drop this kind of money (I'm a graduate student). Any info you could provide would be helpful.

Secondly, once I purchase it, what can I legally do to make it resemble how it would have appeared in WW2?

Thanks!

Matt, welcome to the board we will try to help you best we can. And have fun in doing it.

To obtain the SBR you must go through the goat rodeo and snipe wrangling we like to call the ATF. It is a $200 tax just like the real things. You must fill out the form and get finger prints and Police Chief sign off before it can be actually yours. Oh I forgot the most important thing, the 3 to 6 month wait for the paper work to come back. Welcome to the class III world. Bring your own lube. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Look back in the past couple of days of posts, another dude just asked the same thing about making it look more authentic WW2 less the SBR. Lots of great info here on this board, just spend some time going through the old stuff. Good luck http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif

Matt,

Welcome to the group! I'm the 'other dude' Motorcar was talking about; I just did the same thing as you, only I bought mine from Sarco, Inc. and only paid 735 smackers for mine...with the 200 dollar ATF stamp and the 100 dollar or so barrel, I'll only have a little over a grand in mine...a savings of over 200 bucks as opposed to the 'ready-made' SBR route...money that can go towards other cool things, like a sling, barrel band, USGI wood, etc...
