shape sure looks correct for a 1940 S1928 commercial grip....but S mark is not

ive got comparison pics and the shape to me is dead on for a S1928....id like a spare, but id like opinions before i buy

thanks for any opinions

Huggy,

What is wrong with the S mark? It is a WWII Savage grip. They marked them in a couple of different spots during. WWII. Decent 1928 WWII grips are getting harder to find in decent shape. That one is in pretty good shape.

i think the shape is not a WW2 A1 grip

i think its shaped like an early 1940 S1928

profile looks slimmer and finger groves are smoother...

the S on a early S1928 is a larger/different font....

curious on others opinions? ive got an original/correct grip on my gun...its not the best quality.....this one wont be either...its hacked/dented....but for the price id like to have a spare.....

anyone with an early Savage also agree with me?

maybe there is some crossover....1941+ Savage 1928a1's....maybe they had some left over grips and used the newer/standard font when they stamped this one.....ive got multiple pics and specs on how to tell the shape of the earliest Savage grips....to me this one fits...just not the S font

That was a nice ww2 28 grip! Good thing I didn't see it before it sold to someone else haha. Looks correct for a 28a1. Nothing wrong with the 'S' it's definitely an original grip. Ive bought quite a bit from that seller before.

Huggy,

The 1928A1 Model was not a separately produced model. The A1 suffix was the U.S. Military's designation for the standardized 1928 Model with Cutts Compensator, sling swivels. horizontal foregrip, etc. The shape of the grips changed as mass production increased and they were not as finely contoured in all cases. I have seen several Savage marked grips that exhibit several different nuances in shape. The earliest Savage grips actually have a profile shaped almost identical to a Colt grip, but that was discarded as production increased. The grip you inquired about has the more traditional early WWII contour where the grip meets the bottom of the trigger frame. I have seen Savage grips with the S stamped on either side of the screw hole opening at the top of the grip and large and small fonts. As the war demand increased there were obviously multiple orders for grips. Savage was a gun manufacturer, it is entirely possible they subcontracted someone to make the grips for them and stamp the S on them. You just have to examine enough WWII grips and you will see for yourself the various nuances.

ive got some comparison pics on the shape and the different font Savage used on their early guns.....my front grip and rear grip on my gun match the larger S font...this one in question had the same wood shape, but lacked the larger font S...i should have grabbed it, but it sounds like someone else did....i just like to have spares on hand and for $60 why not....next time ill just go with my gut and grab it vs advertise something a bit special on ebay

Yeah - Shoot first, ask questions later. Lol. I've done that before and got some nice Thompson stuff. That seller has some nice Thompson wood furniture listed every now and then. I keep him on my favorite seller list and I still somehow missed that one.
