ThompsonCrazy
Hi all! Looking for some help as I don't have a bakelite equipped 44 handy. Is the hardware interchangeable between wooden and bakelite grips? The screw and nut are the same? There are no spacers in between the grips like a MP38/40? Any metal washers, ferrules, etc that go with the grips? Is it as simple as left panel, right panel, nut and machine screw? No pressed in metal pieces (threaded and bugle head countersunk) like the MP38/40? Thanks for the help!TC

ThompsonCrazy
Put in a spacer...... Thank you for your reply BRMCII! Just make one work to reinforce the grips and keep from pulling through or are there originals out there? If you have one handy can you measure the ID, OD and OAL please? If you have a lead on one that would be great too. If not Ace hardware has spacers. I guess I could custom one a few thousands thinner than my grip frame for the reinforcement. https://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/125/3379 I did have a bakelite equipped lower a long time ago and remember one of the panels had the bolt head recess pulled through where a spacer would have prevented. I have a wood 44 now that I want to swap the grips to bakelite but want to make it right and not ruin scarce original parts. Black River Militaria CII
I just suggested that if you are concerned with buckling of bakelite panels from overtightening of screw. Wood well resists buckling. MPs did not use spacers since the width of the grip metal around the small center hole gives excellent support.
