TSMG 50 Round Drums Sarco $135

Recommended Posts

Those drums are maybe .0001% of the standard capacity mags in Sarco's inventory.

My guess is they just haven't been moving lately, so Sarco is trying to stir the pot.

Still not sure if these are the same quality as the well regarded L drums imported around 5-6 years ago.

Anyone know for sure?

The only place the grease serves any real purpose is over the rotor detents -the "clicks" when winding.

The shaft rotation is so slow that a shot of any lube, CLP, etc., would easily handle that part.

Unfortunately, the only easy way to get grease where needed is by pumping the grease in through the center.

This puts enough grease inside to lube dozens of drums, if it could be applied only where needed.

The grease really does help in reducing wear over these detent surfaces, even if the drum will run without it.

-All this is from a conversation with Merle B.

I have drums that were greased by Merle, and new repro drums that only ever got a shot of CLP and compressed air to spread it.

I've never had a feed malfunction with either, but I do make sure all collectible drums have the proper grease.

I know the whole drum greasing thing has been beat like a dead horse here on other threads, but... Merle told me directly that he had found the springs to be gauling the inside of the hub for lack of proper grease, which is why he advised the use of such.

Good to know.

He did not specifically mention that; possibly at the time, he was thinking no grease at all vs grease on the detents also lubing the spring as needed.

We discussed various things, many not even gun related; it seemed to help him get his mind away, however briefly, from his recent losses.

Sarco has them listed on Gunbroker @$145 ea. or $135 for 2+. Shipping $13. Quite a lengthy description there too, just like their ads. Their "handle" on GB is ocras2007

By the way, on their regular website the drums are @$150 ea.

I ordered one of these and finally got around to cleaning all the sticky oil off it and tried it out .. Fired 200 rounds without any problems ... I was concerned as it fits in my gun looser than my old Thompson drum does, but it was not an issue at all ... Nice purchase.

Does your new drum have any markings on it at all?

In small microprint it states. YOU HAVE PURCHASED A REPLICANT OF A COPY OF A COPY WHICH WILL FUNCTION AT ANY GIVEN TIME AND HAS NO HISTORIC VALUE OR STORY BEHIND IT NOW OR FIFTY YEARS IN THE FUTURE ON ANY FORUM GUN BOARD.

Made by and packed by: Mee goo sum moolah gone.

In the future only the poor will be using these drum's.And the rich will all be New Yorkers..

Enjoy all....Ron

I use 6 of these drums and wind 8 clicks for 1928 rate and 9 clicks for 1921 rate. I've been doing this for many years with no problems. DO NOT OVERWIND.
