Hawkeye_Joe
Here is a pic posted on the Re-enactor's site that is from the later part of the war. Notice that the Thompson gunner between the bazookaman and the BAR gunner is using a drum. Haven't seen too many "L" drums being used in '44/'45......you can tell it's late war because of the use of the M9 Bazooka which didn't come out til '44. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v47/Pvt.Noble/WWII%20Bazooka/marinem9.jpg

p51
QUOTE (Jay Baker @ Apr 5 2005, 06:06 PM) Almost looks like re-enactors, their uniforms look so clean. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/tongue.gif The main thing that makes me realize they're not is that none are looking at the camera! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif Did you notice that the bazooka isn't loaded? Take a good look, no fins for either of the 2.36 inch rocket variants are shown coming out of the breech end, either would be sticking at least an inch at the least out the back, otherwise, the wires wouldn't reach the leads to set it off. The M9 didn't have any manner of telescopic sight. Wonder why he's doing that, then? I gotta admit, seeing a drum that late is pretty darn unusual, though! Tman
Hey, the BAR man isn't carrying a BAR. What gives? Great pic.
21 smoker
Greg,.. that`s because he`s not the BAR man...he is the left or right gunners assistant... they carried extra ammo and mags for the BAR man,..part of the squad deployment tactics...that pic is the real McCoy and thanks for posting H-Joe... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif
full auto 45
Looks like a Jap T-38 or 99 that the guy with his head down is holding. Just sold one of those. I think it was the T-38 that was a bit shorter.
M1tommygun
The BAR man looks like he is carrying a BAR. It looks like the flash hider has been removed along with the bipod. It also looks like he is fiddling with its magazine, possibly reloading. That is a real neat picture. Scott
Hawkeye_Joe
No..it's not a BAR the barrel is way too short....I just can't get it blown up with any definition to tell exactly what it is. I at first thought the same thing that it was a BAR with the flashhider and bipod removed but after looking at it I and comparing it to my BAR and it's not even close....I don't know what it is... Since the bazooka is unloaded I wonder if he's still got his head down from the back blast...
