Refinish Advice Wanted

Recommended Posts

I bought a really nice M1905 bayonet dated 1919 at a "dirt" price. In fact, the looks like it was barely used. The problem is it was nickled as a parade piece. Can anyone recommend someone to strip the plating and apply a black oxide finish without messing it up? Thanks in advance! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

A customer recently brought an MP44 into our local gun shop for refinishing. It had been chromed. I suspect your bayonet is chromed as well since US drill rifles, helmets, and bayonets often were. The gunsmith (who is very good) removed the chrome plating and neatly refinished the gun. I saw it just as he was finishing it up and he did a lovely job. You might contact him: Dave at Kirk's Gun Shop, El Paso, TX, (915) 592-6401. His rates are reasonable and the shipping couldn't be much. Hope this helps!

Thanks TSMGguy! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif I had a guy in mind, but can't locate him now. I'd guess it shouldn't cost more than $60 to do the job, but I wouldn't trust anyone around here with anything of mine. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/mad.gif
