Gunner945
I bought a new Kahr Thompson TM1 about a year and a half ago and had it converted to an SBR. I had a double every 25 rounds or so with Blazer Brass and Federal ammo but it ran fine with Winchester white box for about 250 rounds but is now doubling or tripling with the Wincester ammo at least once per magazine. Seems to be getting worse. Any thoughts on what could be causing this?
Paladin601
is the hammer cocked after it doubles?
Gunner945
Don't know, what would the possible issue be if it does it with a cocked hammer or one that is not? What is an easy way to check to see if it is not fully cocked before a double? Thanks,Bill
Paladin601
Underpowered ammo, Internals need to be cleaned to let the hammer reset. Needs to be cleaned and oiled ( some even grease the bolt instead of oil) sometimesgrit from unburned powder cause problems Edited October 30, 2015 by Paladin601
StooperZero
open it up and operate the FCG with your fingers. Clean the firing pin and it's slot in the bolt and check for burrs as well, be surprised what will make a FP stick.
Gunner945
Thanks guys. I'll give it a good cleaning and lube and see if it makes a difference.
Guest 4WHLDRFTN
i use grease only on all guns, oils good for about 2rds http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g448/4WHLDRFTN/IMG_3469_zpst2scynoh.jpg
Gunner945
Update, finally gave it a good cleaning and lube with high temp synthetic grease. It made a drastic difference. I had only one double after about 100 rounds. That was the only one in about 130 rounds of firing since the cleaning. I will give it a thorough cleaning after each use. Thanks for all the advice guys.Bill
Hang-Fire
Mine was doubling today. Is yours still giving you trouble?
Black River Militaria CII
Keep the Olafson case in mind when you have any semi that is doubling or tripling. If you don'ty know what this case is about, read up on it. If you go to any non-MG friendly supervised range where an RO might perceive that you are shooting an MG and investigates, you might have to talk him out of calling the cops. Be very aware of where you are shooting any semi that doubles or triples and who might hear it?
deerslayer
Might need a new firing pin. It could have been cut down to the very minimum necessary to catch the sear. Then it lets go too easy.
StooperZero
where an RO might perceive that you are shooting an MG and investigates, you might have to talk him out of calling the cops. that could be a very expensive experience for the RO and police involved. Does Kahr QA their stuff anymore?????? Seriously , all i read anymore are "issues" with anything made in the past 2 years. If it's still under warranty , they should be your first phone call. Gunner945
Long overdue follow up. it was the firing pin causing the problem as Deerslayer thought it might be. Filed a new pin just a bit to get it to work properly Old pin was cut too much. Thanks Dan!Runs like a Swiss clock now.
vanvock
Things haven't changed there. I bought one last year with same & other problems. Sent it back & they changed the FP,pilot & bolt which cured the multi bursts. It's due to arrive tomorrow from the second trip back to the factory, we'll see.
