A Few More Questions Regarding The 1928 And 1921

Recommended Posts

I have a few questions on the 1921 and 1928.

Do the receivers for the two differ in any way other than markings?

And what type of finish were the majority of 1921s/1928s shipped with? Parkerized? Blued?

Which model was more popular in the 20's-30s?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

PMDW,

All 15,000 Colt TSMG's were blued and were all model 1921. The 1928 Navy is a 1921 with a different actuator, spring/buffer, and then an "8" is stamped over the "1" making it look like a "B". As far as popularity, the 1928 model became much more popular, especially for the FBI, but obviously, up until 1928, the 1921 was the only game in town

Just to add to what Arthur posted,... the 21 & 28 Colts were blued, but the early production Savage 28s were more of a black matte finish and they clearly marked 1928 and produced in late 1939 and early 1940, most went overseas, out. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif

Good point...

It is hard to see the difference when viewed separately, but compare them together and you can see the hint of blue one only sees on a Colt.
