deerslayer
Merle (the drum Doctor) Bitikofer called today. It might not be well known but his wife passed away recently. He is getting and reading emails but is not the most internet capably guy. He asked me to post the following request... Put your phone number in any email you send him so he can call you back. He likes calling better than typing on a little keyboard. Don't be afraid to pick up the phone and call him anytime to talk guns or what ever. He appreciates the contact. Life is a bit lonely now. mnshooter
Karen Kay Bitikofer Nov 04, 1945 - Nov 1, 2016Karen and Merle were married 51 years ago on June 6, 1965. (The online obituary date of may 5 is incorrect). Condolences may also be sent to www.dallastribute.com But, as Dan already mentioned, I will also tell you that Merle would appreciate a personal phone call much more.Merle's phone number in Oregon is: 503-623-8294 He is still making .22 kits, and working on drums. I spoke to Merle's wife almost as often as I spoke to Merle. She was always pleasant; I'm sorry I never got a chance to meet her. jim c 351
Anticus,One of the members here had 2 Stanley drums at Merles for over a year. Also had difficulty reaching him by phone. They finally agreed that the member would send a shipping container and Merle would return the drums unrepaired.I haven't heard if he received his drum.I seem to remember that Merle was injured in some way.All I know is what I've heard.Jim C

Stampcollector
I'm really worried about Merle, I sent him a drum about a year and a half ago. I called him a few months ago and he said he wasn't going to work on drums anymore. He said that I could send him money to ship it back to me, I did and have not got the drum or hurd from him at all. I hope he's okay.
deerslayer
Talked to him yesterday... He's ok.. But I really don't think he wants to work on very much stuff any more... Drums... Buy a tawain drum and use the rotor in it is kind of his thinking...
67ray
Merle was ill for a long time. I received my drums back from him in 2016, they were there for 5-6 months IIRC. They may have been the last ones he worked on.
