Another Ammo Question

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this topic has been shot to death already. Do you know if the 45cal African 220 gr, PMP, by Denel is ok to shoot in Thompson? The guy at store didn't think it would be hot enough for full auto.

I spoke with two people at Knob Creek about PMP (Denel) and both said it functioned flawlessly in their Thompsons. I had my doubts as the slugs are 220 grain but both told me the stuff is plenty hot and they had no problems.

Now, I didn't know either of these folks but they were not the ones trying to sell me the ammo.....only bystanders (and not on a commission, from what I could tell!!) http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif

I've never shot the stuff, but the price seemed OK at the Creek.....about $90.00 per 500. This isn't too bad for nice non-corrosive boxer primed/brass cased ammo, but it's still $9.00 a box. I can buy Winchester white box at a local store for only a bit more than that, and Sellier and Bellot was less than that at the Creek!

I still have about three spam cans of USGI to burn up, along with a couple thousand rounds of Wolf (they have a new coating that doesn't gum up the chamber http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif like the old shiny stuff used to do.....works great, and I bought at $135.00 per THOUSAND! ($6.75 per box).

I'd say try a couple boxes before you buy. If it works and you can get a great deal, go for it! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif

John--

Thanks for your help with this. I bought some boxes to try. I was also attracted to the price and availablity in bulk, for a local purchase. I think I can also get it for about 500 rds for $90.
