BRMCII
Does WI allow private possession of MGs in the state? Is there a state/county PD permission letter needed with an F4 transfer from a WI dealer to a WI resident?

arch stanton
The answer to your questions is yes. Statute 941.26 The law letter can be from any city or town LEO in Wisconsin and should be worded so that the letter is good indefinitely. I do live in Wisconsin and the letters are needed. The necessity question should read as per statute 941.26 and all lawful purposes. Sometimes transfers go through with out the letter it luck of the draw Edited January 19, 2022 by arch stanton
BRMCII
Thanks. That is what I understand from reading WI regs.On a different but related note, I have a situation where ATF is demanding a PD authorization from a WI FFL/SOT who is receiving an F4 interstate transfer to his license from a seller who is an individual. While the WI regs might possibly be interpreted to include a PD authorization for an FFL/SOT to receive a registered MG, it also seems pretty far fetched to require this of a federally licensed recipient. This might be the work of an overzealous examiner who doesn't understand WI regs, or one who missed the fact that the F4 is not going to an individual WI resident, but a federal licensed..... arch stanton
They will still need the letter regardless of how its interpreted. As a SOT I had to get the letter as well.
BRMCII
OK. So, an INTERSTATE transfer, to an FFL/SOT transferee in WI requires the inclusion of an LE permission letter, PER 941.26, with the interstate transfer application to the WI FFL/SOT transferee?
