Fine grit polishing stone?

Recommended Posts

Hi gang,

Where can I purchase a " fine grit polishing stone " to smooth out my gouged up tower on my M60 opp-rod? I tried Lowes, ACE, & Harbor Freight with no luck. Any other information or tips on performing this operation will be appreciated.

the gouges may need to be smoothed with a fine file first - the item you are looking for is something like an "india stone " ( at least that is what we used to call them.) You might try McMaster Carr too. fine emery cloth on a block of wood may also work.

Use a fine needle file, then a sanding stick, then cold blue. The depression of the gouge cannot be replaced, only the burrs at the edges be brought back down to the level of the surrounding metal. Too much metal removal will only make it worse. You just want to get rid of the burrs.
