giantpanda4
Ron, We seriously appreciate your wisdom and experiences. There is no substitute for this - no matter how much we read or hear. Being there and doing that is what makes us wise, and you have been there and done that! One (of the few!) things I learned early on is to seek out the wisest guy in the shop and learn from him. Walter63a
QUOTE (hardrede @ Sep 1 2004, 09:57 PM) QUOTE Watch out for those unregistered parts kits. BATFE raided a home near here. Guy died, had over 10 LEGAL C&R MG's. One of his son's tried to sell one at the local gunstore. Form 4's were in order, but gun store calls ATF. ALL mg's confiscated and melted! What part about following the Arms Export Control Act doesn't anyone understand???? The law has been around since 1961 and it is enforced regularly. I really do not think that it adds to this forum to pillory the person that reminds all of us that we need to follow the law. Or, are we running an "arms bazar" that needs to be shutdown because we are a "loophole?" Someone please clarify this for me. I am totally confused now. Is this and other websites now flaunting the law and enticing others to willfully and knowlingly violate? Or are we running a responsible website? Hardrede, when did this incident take place, with the son trying to sell the MG and the raid? Also, I think that Ron is simply warning people that there are 'unregistered parts kits' out there. He is not advocating that anyone, certainly no person from this site, purchase illegal parts kits. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif It is, and always has been, the responsibilty of the buyer to determine the legality of any purchase, for him/her (status-that is, persons on probation, parole, mentally deficient, and/or a convicted felon) and that such purchases be in accord with the laws or statutes for the U.S., his/her state, and local area, governing whatever is being purchased (machineguns, explosives, fireworks, ammunition, parts, etc). http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif Anyone who forgets this is foolish and certain to eventually be caught! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif Regards, Walter

Hawkeye_Joe
Yes.. I'd like to hear the whole story too.. if he had 10 legal C&R NFA weapons, I'd like to know what the raid was after? Walter63a
Hardrede, I am in total agreement on the Hitler quote and your mention of the further extension of the Weimar Republic gun law in 1938, by Hitler. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif The democratic idiots of the Weimar Republic, like our own liberals wanted to disarm the populace, so that they could force any changes on Germany that they wished, without fear that the people might legitimately oppose them with arms. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif These democratically elected officials unwittingly helped to pave the way for Hitler, in this way and others. Their intention was to make Germany safer from political extremists (sound familiar). The road to hell is often paved with good intentions. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif See my 1000th post for further reasons why our (U.S.) liberals think the citizens of America don't need guns. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/mad.gif Regards, Walter
Walter63a
Hawkeye_Joe, to give you your due however, that is something that Hitler could have in fact said, perhaps more likely so in 1938. Check out the following link for some very interesting information and a book written by Stephen P. Halbrook, PhD., J.D. Hawkeye_Joe
Never let it be said I'm too stiff-necked to change.... No .. I didn't ask for you to spend any money to substantiate your statement. I asked for the "rest of the story" Paul Harvey. And the rest is a little different than the way you put it forth the first time. To me at least, it sounded like the BATF had raided a NFA weapons collector for some infraction that might have been related to illegal parts and in that raid he had died. And that afterward the son had tried to sell one of his legally registered MG's and had then the guns had been confiscated and destroyed ignoring the fact that the guns were legally registered and transferable to the next of kin. That's the way your story read.. at least to me.. This is strange to me...how could they not know that the guns were not legally on Form 4's? Why did they not check the serial numbers? QUOTE ATF raided the home and took all the weapons. No one was aware that they were Form 4'd and C&R. This doesn't make sense either: QUOTE ATF did not allow chance to transfer and seized because of unregistered possession. They were legally on Form 4's. Why would they not let them transfer? Why seize since they were actually registered? If nothing else why not seize until the transfer could take place? Lucky for who?...The family?? the ATF?? QUOTE Luckily no charges. I'm just confused on this whole thing really... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/huh.gif But thanks for clarifying my signature quote..... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif
