shadowman
Greetings all, I already own an M1928A1 & M1 Thompson, and I've been thinking about adding an"original" Colt model for a few years. As most are aware, there seem to be way more of these for sale on the open marketthan there were even just a few years ago, and at (generally) less expensive prices. Onereason for this appears to be a lot of former police guns that have recently been sold tocollectors/dealers. So anyway, seems to be more of a "buyer's market" right now and possibly a good timeto pick one up; thus my post. A few more details about what I'd like to find... - Original 1921A or 1921AC configuration preferred (given I already own a 1928 WW2 model) - Condition/Price - I don't have a strict "hard" limit, although let me be clear I'm not lookingfor a $100K gun... and probably, under $50K in this market (based on numerous offeringsI've seen). E.g.,, even Reuben has a 1921AC not moving at ~$31K: https://dealernfa.com/shop/7244-1921/ - I already own the Tom Davis guide (among other Thompson reference books) OK, that's all I can think of for now. Thanks in advance for everyone's suggestions, "SM"

shadowman
Thanks to all who have contacted me thus far-- I've answered all the PM's sent to meat present. The "Golden Gun" (link above) is interesting, and no doubt a nice gun for the price; but fornow, I think I'm looking for something with the more traditional / original finish. shadowman
I'm still in the market for for a Colt 1921 Thompson... would be interested in opinions on the following gun: http://www.sturmgewehr.com/forums/index.php?/topic/17065-wts-colt-thompson-1921ac-1921-sn-5697/ Refinished, but looks like it could make a good "shooter" Colt, and IMO the priceseems fair enough for this market. Other suggestions? Thanks,SM
Colt Chopper
Stay away. It was in a fire, the wood was completely destroyed. Lot more to the story. There are previous threads regarding this firearm. This is only my opinion, but I would not invest my money in this Colt.

shadowman
Thanks for the info-- hadn't seen that thread before. Given the gun's pedigree, I'll probably just keep looking for now. Thanks,SM

Other suggestions? Thanks,SMI actually shot Colt 21AC #5697 at the Buffalo Rock Shooter's Club in the spring of 1974. Put a few 20rd sticks through it. From what I understand, the gun was partially burned and water damaged from the fire. The wood was gone and the metal surfaces rusted. It was subsequently restored by a shop Southwest of Chicago. They also had another Colt Thompson, which I recall being a 21/28 Overstamp.
TD.
I don't profess to know the actual value of this Buffalo Rock Thompson submachine gun. However, why would someone pay $32,500 for a Colt's that has been in a documented large explosion and fire (with many other Class 3 guns), refinished and without the original wood. While not pictured in the advertisement, the butt plate and slide assembly on NO 5697 are from WWII. I have a good idea why this Thompson does not have the original wood. Any guesses? Would anyone reasonably expect this Thompson to appreciate in value in the future.
shadowman
Greetings, Just wanted to post an update and close out this thread-- my Colt Thompson 1921AC, purchasedfrom a board member, arrived at my dealer today. It's a beautiful gun, and likely will be the centerpieceof my collection for a long time (I've attached a few photos for those interested). Also, thanks for all who contacted me/provided input along the way... Even if I didn't buy your gun, all input was helpful, and I wish you every success finding the transaction you desire, going forward. TD.
I agree with Colt Chopper. NO 8470 looks like a nice Colt's! I hope you join one or both of the Thompson Associations (if not already a member) and display this Colt's at a Show & Shoot.
