reconbob
The most common swivels out there are the milled and stamped swivels for the M1903and M1903A3 Springfield. These swivels at a glance appear to be identical to Thompsonswivels but they are not, and they are NOT interchangeable. The Springfiled swivels area little bigger and will not fit in the recesses in the stock and forend. Next time you are diggingthru a box at a gun show here is the difference: M1903 milled swivel on left, Thompson on right. Note that the M1903 swivel is thinner andthat it has a slight angle on the end. The Thompson swivel is thicker and has no angle orbevel. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f392/reconbob/IMG_6163_zpsudtagzob.jpg M1903A3 stamped swivel on left - note that it is a "sandwich" made from two piecesinduction welded together. The stamped Thompson swivel on the right is one piecepressed/formed into the necessary shape: http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f392/reconbob/IMG_6168_zpswmunqymz.jpg The Thompson swivel has a notch: http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f392/reconbob/IMG_6166_zpstx11rggk.jpg The M1903A3 swivel has no notch: http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f392/reconbob/IMG_6167_zpsbearsyi0.jpg

Mk VII
You would have thought that they would make them interchangeable, arther than saddle the supply systems with two functionally identical parts which do the same job.
anjong-ni
http://www.brpguns.com/swivel-sling-mk-i/ I see that some of the British WW2-issued Thompsons with vertical front grips used the offset Enfield rifle swivel on the right side. This company, BRP, has the original swivels used, very inexpensive, so I got a couple sets. The special wood screws are available too.....Phil Edited November 21, 2015 by anjong-ni
