rkr
This is my first trip to TCA. I am coming from Florida. What types of Thompson stuff do people display? I reserved a table but I am not sure what to bring. I mostly have military stuff with a few colt exceptions. I hate drag my stuff on the airlines all that way if it is things people have seen before. Drums, pouches, parts, barrels etc. I have a few things I need help identifying. Any thoughts before I do my final packing? I am bring 2 guns a 1928A1 and M1A1 with ammo. If the displays are mostly Colt stuff let me know. Thanks Rob
gijive
Rob, The displays are about equally mixed between Colt and military guns. People display all the things you mentioned in your posts, i.e. pouches, barrels, drums, misc. parts, etc. Some display posters and books. It depends on what you want to put on your table. No one at the show gets tired of looking at Thompson stuff:-) Definitely bring any items you want identified, there are lots of knowledgeable individuals there. hawksnest
I suggest you bring anything unique, rare or unusual. Anything Thompson you would like to sell. Also. anything you need identified. You may also want to bring some sleeping pills because when you see what is on display you won't be able to sleep that night and you will need some rest before the shoot next day! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif If you have tracie's or Frank's book bring them if you would like them signed by the authors. Tracie still has some new. I don't know if Frank has any of his left. I think I read on this board that Frank's were all gone. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/unsure.gif
full auto 45
RKR, Do as I do, bring it all. Someone will want to see it or talk about it. If it has the Thompson name on it, go for it. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif see ya there. JimFromFL
There are many item there that people have seen before, but that should not stop you from bringing an item. I have seen many Thompsons, drums and mags, but still stop at each table because each collection is unique. There have been people with a table that will only display their Thompson and maybe a Drum and people will stop, stare and admire. Just remember, whether you have 1 item or 100, or whether its an item people have never seen or see everyday (and Thompson related) you can bet they will stop and look. TOMMY SMG
rkr (Rob), I've never tried to fly with any guns, (let-alone a "Full-Auto Thompson Machine Gun" w/ clips, drums and enough ammo to start a small war http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif ) do you need a special pre-approved permit from the airlines and a special type of case? Or, do they let you carry them on so you can keep them on your person? http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/huh.gif I wouldn't want my Thompsons out of my site or want some baggage handler http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif / strangers http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/dry.gif messen around with them when they transfer from plane to plane at a connecting point. Thanks, http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif Jim
rkr
I have flown all over the globe with my hunting rifles with little problems. You do not need any special permits in the USA but a quality gun case is a must. When you check in the airlines have you sign a card that certifies the guns are unloaded. With the new 911 security measures they pass the cases through the metal dectetor unlooked then they lock them on the other side and hand you the key. The guns are disassembled and I doubt anyone except a Thompson person would know what they are. I have a none stop to Columbus so we will see how it goes. If they screw them up they will owe me 2 Thompsons. See you there.
TOMMY SMG
That doesn't sound too bad. Do they say anything about the ammo in the same case or isn't that an issue? Jim http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif PS - Wish I could be there with you guys http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif , but I'll have to wait till next year http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif .
