Pic's taken near Ton Sohn Nhut in mid 80's,there were also some conex's full of unissued K98's ,MG34's. There was near 1000 1911A1's that were sold to A Filipino with connections to govt. for about $25 ea. They wanted $200 ea. for K98's. The officials in charge had no authority to negotiate.

Mike45: Thanks for the location info on the pics. Speaking of the Phillipines, I was displaying/selling at a gun show in Wisconsin a couple of weeks ago, and a gent told me he knows where there are 2 CONTAINERS full of BARs in the Phillipines. Like, cargo ship containers! That hurts. It also may be a crock, I dunno. If we shipped over 137,000 Thompsons to Russia (and 651,000 to England) on the Lend-Lease deal...aww I don't even want to start on that one.

Thanks again,

Ron

Ron Mills and the Respected Ron, that's enough to make a grown man cry, take up drinking, become depressed, commit suicide...and that's just for starters. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/mad.gif

Ron, There may very well be tons of BAR's in Phillipines, as well as lots of other goodies. I saw (about 10 yrs ago) at Villamor Air Base, formerly Nichols Field, truck loads of US & Jap WW2 small arms & ammo piled up in one of the giant hangars just rusting away. The inventory documentation of all military property stored there & other locations across the nation is unbelievably non-existant. If you can dig up some details on the BAR's I have a friend in Quezon City who can check it out. He is a gun nut & is well versed in mil.weapons. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif Have a good one, Mike

Mike: I didn't get the gent's name that told me about the BAR's, sorry. We chatted about it, shrugged our shoulders about it, and went on. Interesting stuff, to be sure.

Walter: I'll go along with the drinking part...after 5...wink!

Respected Ron: You always have the straight dope on extraordinary subjects!
