Vig to MP40 modification

Recommended Posts

I have sent a few Vig magazines for modification to a friends machine shop for use in my MP40. I do not have a spare mag well to make the job easy for him. Just some general dimensions. My question is does anyone know how much has to be milled/ground off the 4 sides for a proper fit? Any input is welcome.

I just put them to the belt sander. Sand off to bare metal on all four sides. Then test fit and sand the shiny spots until I get a snug fit. Switch to 400 grit and make them smooth. Then they usually are a nice snug, but smooth fit. I cheat and cold blue the exposed steel.

Careful about taking too much metal off the right side. I did one that ruined the mag catch hole.

If I had to guess, it's probably on the order of 1/32" on each side. Not very much at all.

I received my two 'test' Vig magazines back from my friends machine shop. The young man who was assigned the task had only an original mag, your comments, and rectangle dimensions for a trapezoid. I was pleasantly surprised at how well they fit. Test firing later in the week. If all goes well we might run off a few dozen.84899CF7-3BA5-4F69-8416-5EB71BB4BC64.jpeg Edited by RogerD
