deerslayer
We're having a machine gun shoot May 16th at the Kensett IA Izaak Walton league. If you're in reasonable distance come on out and shoot a Tommy gun or something else! This is a fundraising event for Izaak Walton league.

MG08
so is this an "open" shoot - bring your gun and shoot on a spot for a price, or a "shoot our guns for a price" type shoot ?
nate129
I am interested in more detail as well, if it's a shoot to bring some toys I may be interested. I am in the Southeast twin cities, looks like a few of us in this thread could be car pool candidates.
deerslayer
This is not an open shoot.. It's a fund raising event for the Ike's. Shoot our guns for a price. https://m.facebook.com/events/545195426431918?acontext=%7B%22ref%22%3A%2298%22%2C%22action_history%22%3A%22null%22%7D&aref=
deerslayer
We will limit people on the line. The parking lot will be organized, Participants will be asked to stay in their car until their "turn" with less than 10 at a time up in the shooting position. Gloves/masks not required. john
For those who don't know what the Izaak Walton league is about, it's a Conservation oriented group that is pro-gun, pro-hunting and fishing. Clean environments and clean water as well as a responsible use of our natural resources. Not tree huggers, more like Foresters...a great organization to support or to join and help achieve great things.Look them up on Google then show up and shoot. Dan's prices are really decent compared to other pay to shoot events and the cause is an excellent one!I can shoot my own guns for less but if I shoot Dan's I won't have to clean them!! I'm an Ike and proud of that! Edited May 10, 2020 by john
johnsonlmg41
https://www.activistfacts.com/organizations/izaak-walton-league-of-america/ tree huggers and liberal activists. I'd guess at a local level things may be different, but this is in Iowa a non NFA friendly state which is why this is post sample rentals only and not a BYO line shoot. Hopefully the funds are spent to advocate and educate for allowing Iowa citizens to participate in a free society one day!
deerslayer
Most of our local level funds are spent to facilitate the high school trap shooting teams. All we do is support shooting activities at our Ike's really. If you aren't from Iowa or other places that have it.....trap shooting is a high school sport now. And as mentioned above... Iowa is a non machine gun state "except for dealers" that precludes having a bring your own mg fun day...
john
Some points taken but one can draw lines in many directions with any set of facts if one digs deep enough. Just because an organization took funds on (one? X-number??) occasion(s) doesn't mean it is regularly supported, and even then isn't proof of following any particular agenda. One can take a pile of facts and pull it any way one cares to, it's all in the presentation. Read that link carefully. And recipients don't always toe the line of their funding sources. Not calling the above false but some of that is deliberately misleading and some is a real stretch, IMHO. It is that writers opinion and not all fact. And that's not what I've seen over 25 years. Our chapter was/is mainly concerned with clean water, clean air and people enjoying the outdoors safely. Many hunt, fish or shoot for fun. They support Hunter Education and Firearms Safety programs. I've been. Mn Firearms Safety Instructor for 26 years now and believe any effort there is a worthy one.Of course, if one cares to push that it too can go in any direction.I'd say watch or join a chapter for a year and draw your own conclusions. The internet is comprised of the opinions of others, including this post by me!BTW, a "bring your own gun to shoot" event isn't the greatest for a fundraiser, even though it's fun for the owners of the guns. A ental as this is set up will raise much more. AND, Iowa's not totally anti-gun....they did pass some carry laws.....a step in the right direction.
