Anyone see this? L Drum on eBay

Recommended Posts

Not mine. Bridgeport drum(?) Looks to have a little surface corrosion from storage, but not bad overall. Listed under reproductions lol. It does appear to be an original.

There's also a nice set of mags new in wrappers with USMC mag pouches (not mine just thought someone might be interested )https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F202669887823

The USMC pouches look repro to me and the mags are overpriced IMO. I could be wrong. I buy most of my NIW mags for $50 and under.

I kinda thought it was over priced but I live in a state where they are illegal for being "high capacity mags" so I don't really follow prices on them, as for the mag pouches I wasn't sure if they where repro or not

The magazine pouches aren't reproduction, they are original, but everyone is correct about everything being way overpriced.

Andrew,

The drum is definitely a WWII United Specialties (v5) drum, not a repro. Rust on the outside could mean rust on the inside, but might be a nice shooter for someone. Id want to see the inside before bidding too much.

they had grease gun mags listed recently...a forum member grabbed them...a bargain price

you can get a mint example of this drum for $450-500 max...i think its close to its value right now... United specialties i think is the most common i see for sale

Ebay is slipping on catching stuff

Using the contact option from the mag/pouch auction I emailed the person and mentioned it looked like his auction was pulled and was the drum still available.

He replied that the only thing he had for sale were the mags, neither confirming or denying anything about a drum.

My gyess is he suspected the drum was worth more than his auction might net him and so pulled it before it ended.

Seen this before....a great deal in the works and....poof!

Or someone made a back door offer.

Andrew

A "Back Door" offer is certainly possible, but the drum was almost at its maximum value for the condition it was in. Don't know why someone would offer more just to secure the deal, but each to his own if that is what happened.

The way to prevent this is to submit a bid, no matter how low. The auction generally cannot be pulled by the seller once a bid has been tendered.

You're not supposed to, but you can on Ebay. Just select 'item no longer available' and you can take the auction down.....doesn't matter if there are any bids, they will all be cancelled. On the auction page it will say, "seller ended auction early because...." or something like that across the top header.

But that's not what happened here.....it was administratively cancelled, that's why you cannot even see if what is was. Ebay axed the auction because you're not allowed to sell magazines on their site. There have people that have snuck prohibited items through on BuyItNow only to have the auction cancelled and funds REVERSED after the auction. It's a violation on Ebay and PayPal TOS to use their services for certain "gun related items" (including magazines). So once they see the auction or sale, they cancel everything to wash their hands of it. You can get royally screwed as a seller if you already mailed the item and the buyer ghosts you.

But didn't Full Auto say he had a $210 bid going?

I have seen other stuff disappear suddenly and nobody ever seems to have an answer.

Looking at the high price on the mags and pouches I wonder if he thought he started it off with too low a minimum....maybe just decided to pull it and pay eBay the commission, then list it again another time.

If you click on the drum auction, you will see it's wiped from eBay's history: https://www.ebay.com/itm/113739278972?ul_noapp=true This means it was administratively cancelled......most likely because it violated the TOS (no high cap mags.) Any bids were cancelled, and any fees are refunded. They want to wash their hands of it as fast as possible. Doesn't matter how many bids there were, who was high bidder, or even if it had already ended, they wipe it out and return all the funds and fees.

On the stick mag auction, it's archived, so it ended legitimately: https://www.ebay.com/itm/ww2-USMC-Marine-Corp-Thompson-MG-Pouches-Magazines-Mint-Dated-1944-/202669887823?_trksid=p2047675.m43663.l10137&nordt=true&rt=nc&orig_cvip=true Look at the header, "bidding has ended". That means time ran out or the seller ended it early. Seller then relisted the auction with BuyItNow (could have just edited the auction, but it's not like there are any relisting fees in that category.) Seller's can cancel bids if they don't trust the buyer, or just cancel them all and end the auction early (just select "item no longer available".) This one violates the TOS as well, it just hasn't been flagged yet.
