Thompson Barrel Vise For Sale

Recommended Posts

Does this thing really work, without tearing up the finish of the barrel ?...Also, how can it be used as a wrench, with the cutout for the grip mount in the way ?.............. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/huh.gif jw

not to speak for him but the TSMG threads go from sloppy to tight in very short distance becoues of the square thread. I think you put it against one edge of the cut out and it's lose when you get to the other.

I just Emailed him a few questions. anyone have one of these and want to endorse it ?

Appears to be copy of TSMG barrel vise I designed several years ago. Except the grip mount clearance slot of my design is radiused in proportion to the barrel. I've recently updated my design to include aluminum inserts held within steel clamshells. Each steel clamshell half hangs by itself on inside of vice jaws. Then you drop in the left and right aluminum insert halves onto the steel clamshell halves. Then insert bbl/grip mt/rcvr assy and tighten vise. Then spin rcvr on/off.

Aluminum is softer than steel and conforms to the barrel without marring it's finish or causing burrs in the actual metal of the barrel itself. When used in conjunction with plenty of Rosin....these inserts will not allow the bbl to spin in them. The aluminum inserts contain the barrel bore (1.000) and grip mount radius relief cut. Each insert is then clamshelled by cutting it in half. About .040 of material is removed by the saw's kerf. This ensures the alum clamshells do not contact each other when clamped to the barrel....thus allowing maximum force to be exerted against the inserts.

Sorry...no pics yet of new barrel vise design.

Doing it the old way...spinning bbl onto receiver instead of rcvr onto bbl (but hey..it worked darn good!)
