Winchester Model 75 .22 with scope

Recommended Posts

Gents,

Any idea if this scope looks original to the rifle or not? Friend of mine Uncle passed away and I am trying to get more photos on this. Good chance I may get to offer it here first.

Gun is in another state, so wanted to get some info here before I spend too much time on this.

From this one photo the gun looks in pretty good shape. What kind of marks or stampings would be on this if it was a military trainer?

Thanks in advance,

I don't think the scope was offered with the gun originally. I'm away from my books at the moment to check on your markings question. I seem to recall that these were in civilian use prior to being adopted by the military, and I recall some fake military marking concerns with one in the past. I'm going from memory. There's a good amount of information on them in the Rimfire forums.

David is correct that Winchester 75's pre date WW2, I own a 4 digit Winchester 75 made in 1939. I has a 6 X 1-1/4 Unertl Target scope serial number 500 on it.

I would get the serial number and check the date of manufacture which should help you date if it is a WW2 trainer. My guess is with with the 1"Unertl scope on it it may have been a smallbore rifle.
