1921 AC Thompson Up for Auction

Recommended Posts

If from Omaha it would be a keeper.Otherwise a 1921ac in good cond. with script type engraving. To make sure everybody knew who owned it. Did they do that to all the Colts they got in?

worth $15 grand for sure..I am still waiting for one to come out of Chicago with engraved AL CAPONE on it.

Pride of ownership there.Ron K.

Ron K., has the key question. Do the other nine Omaha PD Colts also have the old English script engraving. I seem to remember the deep wood burning and engraving from an older thread.

edit: Arthur F. says the other Omaha PD guns are also engraved as well.

I see it has a nice hefty buyer's premium of 20%, wow somebody's going to have to dig deep for this one.

Personally, I think the engraving hurts the value. Im a purist I guess - never liked 21s disfigured in this manor, no matter how fancy the work. It will be interesting to see if all that chicken scratching helps or hurts the value. Edited by 1921A

I looked at this gun last year when it was being sold by an estate here in Arizona. the front wood was suspect. the pistol grip was engraved with OPD, but did not fit the gun properly. perhaps it was from a different OPD gun. the internals were not Colt. There were a lot of handling marks/scratches. At the time, it was packaged with an original FBI case, 4 patent mags, a no No. drum, a gordon repro cleaning rod and a gordon repro spare parts tin. The asking price was 40. The case and no No drum were nice, but the condition of the gun and lack of correct parts coupled with little flexibility on the price just led me to pass. I did not buy it but months later spoke with the local dealer who did. I believe he paid in the high 20's/low 30's for the package. he was looking for the correct internals so he could complete the gun. perhaps he did, is keeping the accessories and now selling the gun.

Only somebody from Omaha would know.I had #3283 on display at a show decades ago. From Nassau County. East.

A show goer came up to the table and looks three times at it and says WOW! I remember seeing that one when i was a kid going to the p.d. they had that on display. And they said it would never be sold. Well i said you can fulfill the child hood dream and here it is buy it.Along with Hardcase drums . 20 round mags. and manual and cleaning rod.All original check it out a 98% Might even have the chiefs name on some of the paperwork. He seemed to balk at the $15,000.00 price.

Sometimes we only get that one chance maybe two in life. to get something cool or with a good memory of the past days gone by.

He walked away took one of my old Thompson sub gun business cards. {Probably a collector item today}ha ha and never heard from him.

It sold a few weeks later. The owner probably still has it today. He has a nice Colt Piece of police history...They never even bothered to take it out and shoot it just oiled and display for the public.RON K.

That Omaha gun Just made me think of a time i went to Oregon Probably 18 years now. And a dealer lead sent me to this guys gun shop.HE HAD ten or so maybe less 1921's in hard cases from a local P.D. Stayed there all day to check the guns out.Made him a super offer to buy them all.He thought fora few minutes wrote some figures down and said he another $30 grand or so would do it.

I said oh no thanks. You want me to give you my Profit also. He must have loved those guns. and had a new in hard case HKPGS1 Sniper {Or whatever HK called it. in the glassed out area. in the shop. I said to Don, Heck airfare two days spent rental car i am walking out of here with something.Yeah i was a little ticked.offered him a grand under retail on a $10 grand package. he said nope $11 grand will buy that.I could not hit the door fast enough. The total time to the airport i TALKED or Squawked to Don and said who in the frick gave you that lead.I just burned time and $500 bucks into the wind. After that he wanted a deal on my Peru,Il. 1921 ac.Since he figured i was not getting in any ten gun case set packages soon. I did give it to him. Since i considered the gun shooter grade anyhow.Thinking back i should have Jacked him $500 bucks ha ha,

Back to the Omaha special....good luck with the sale.Somebody will turn up they always do.RON K.
