Looking for Front Sight Blade for Compensator

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a tall-height front sight blade for my Thompson (installs in rear of compensator). I currently have the short blade.

I've been looking around and can't find any in stock. Does anyone know where to buy or have one they'd be willing to sell? Anyone have a 3D printer and willing to make?

Thanks for the assist.

Do you have a WWII military Thompson? The sight blades on the military guns had more of a flat profile on top. The original Colt made guns had a more pointed sight blade, is that what you are referring to? I don't know if the height is any different. You may to have a custom sight blade made if you want one that is higher than the standard military sight.

Based on the picture of the compensator you posted, it is a Numrich/Kahr West Hurley compensator. The sight has the same flat profile as the WWII military sights. You may have to get a custom one made if you want a taller sight.

If you just want to bring the POI down for some recreational shooting, one easy quick fix is to

superglue a small piece of wood to the top, and hit it with some matte black paint.

I've done it on a few old military rifles, just for fun.

Start slightly high; very easy to trim down with a file or sanding block to get a suitable zero.

The best thing: it's completely removable, with no harm done.

If that doesn't suit, a skilled tig welder could build up the top of a GI sight.

This would require some careful cleanup and finish, but it would get you there.

Not recommended for Colts.

(That is an excellent photo of a WH comp).

It looks to me that in the first photo - front to right- that the comp has the sharks tooth sight which I always figured was the M1921 sight. The second photo - front to left - has the M1928A1 sight,

I keep up with these sights because we use them all the time and for many years the go to source for a M1928A1 sight was Gun Parts Corp, but a few months ago they were listed as out of stock. I know of no current source where correct M1928A1 are available. Of course you can try Gunbroker,

Auto-Ordnance/Kahr lists and sells a front sight for compensator and while it can be fitted to the comp the shape and profile of the sight is different than the shark tooth M1921 sight or the standard M1928A1 sight. But right now they are only place that has them.

I will post a photo when I get a chance.

Thanks for all the help and great ideas. I ended up with several options. I picked up the repro 1928 front sight from Keystone Arms. It was listed as being to spec. It arrived today. Compared with my original sight and mounting profile looked the same (base was just a hair wider). It was a little tight the first time and stopped at the half-way point. Backed it out; 15 seconds with a file and went in perfect.

i got one from khar and it fit right into my original compensator

Which one did you end up buying? There are two of them. The "T1-C" or the "T1, T5."
