Machinegunboards.com Donations Now Accepted

Recommended Posts

Machinegunboards.com Members,

Well, we've made it to December 2008, and you may recall that when we transferred everything to the new Machinegunboards.com website from Machinegunbooks.com, I said I would not accept any donations until December. I wanted to make sure the site had a firm footing, and work through any issues before I started to accept donations. I appreciate the many donation offers that have been made since we launched, and now I can begin to accept them.

For those who contributed in the past to the old website, and are in the "Donation Made" group, I will continue to keep you in that group until at least March 31, 2009. (Unless you make a new donation, in which case, you will move to another group as I'm about to describe) Thank you for your past donations to the former website. After March 31, 2009, you will change to the Regular Member Group.

For those who would like to donate going forward, I have come up with the following new donation groups:

Board Donor:

You choose the amount you wish to donate (any amount from $5 up to $49.99), and you will have the "Board Donor" group label appear by your name on the left hand side of the screen for a 2-year period. You will see your group name change as soon as I log the donation.

Board Benefactor:

If you wish to donate $50, you can become part of the "Board Benefactor" group, which will make the "Board Benefactor" group label appear by your name on the left hand side of the screen for a 2-year period. (You can donate more if you wish, but it's not necessary)

Thanks in advance for your donations towards the maintenance of the website. I don't want anyone to feel pressured into donating. I set the 2-year timeframe on the subscriptions so that they will have a reasonable end date.

Becoming a "Board Donor" or "Board Benefactor" does not grant any special privileges; it only changes your group name assignment, and hopefully provides you the satisfaction of contributing towards the maintenance and improvement of the site. All board rules still apply to all members, no matter to which group they belong.

I have already begun to add pinned content to the website, and plan to do a lot more. I want this site to be a valuable resource for anyone interested in the Thompson Submachine Gun, and the other firearms covered on the site. I approach this from a historically focused, collector perspective, and am a shooter of many of the firearms covered here, so the content will support those interests. Please take a look at the pinned content already posted:

You do not have to donate to enjoy this website. However, if you would like to donate, I appreciate it. The main way to donate will be through PayPal.

To donate through PayPal, you can forward a donation (include your board name in the title) to me at the following e-mail address:

dalbert@sturmgewehr.com

If you would like me to send you a PayPal invoice, which can make it easier, just send me an e-mail. I tried to make a PayPal direct link, but it just won't post correctly on the site, for some reason.

For those who do not like Paypal, for whatever reason, you can e-mail me, and I will forward you a physical address to mail a check. I will update your status upon receipt of the check.

Your suggestions for the website are always welcomed. Again, donating to the website is not required, but it is appreciated very much.

Thanks In Advance!

David Albert

All,

Thank you very much for the donations several members have made so far! I thought I'd let you know some of the plans I have to enhance the content of the website. If you have any ideas, they are welcomed. With the number of projects I'm currently working, I won't commit to an exact timeline, but here are some of the specific content additions I would like to make:

Thompson Canvas Item Reference Thread (Pinned Post)

Sten SMG FAQ (Pinned Post on the Sten Board)

Bren LMG Board (A new board with content from my longtime shooting buddy in Austin, Peter Keys)

Tear Gas Gun Board with Reference Section (A new board with coverage of Manville, Lake Erie Chemical Co., and Federal Laboratories Gas Guns)

Thanks!

David

Tino,

Thanks! I sent you another e-mail with the address, this time through the board mail system. Not sure what happened with the first e-mail, but let me know if you don't receive it. Please say hello to Lana for me, and I hope all is well with you. Hope you don't have any more weddings to attend on the same weekends as this year's Thompson events! We missed you at Tracie's in August...I had my display where yours normally is.

Happy New Year!

David
