Mp-34 Display Gun

Recommended Posts

I found a beautiful MP-34 parts set and thought it would make a great display gun. The MP34 is beautifully machined and over built. I would guess one of the most expensive submachine guns ever produced. Since the top of the receiver was hinged and opens to show the bolt I wanted it to work like the original. I made a hook device like the original rear catch and welded it to the rear of the blued strap steel pieces I used for the fake receiver. The bolt will not move and the part of the receiver that I made is only attached to the wood stock with pins. Visually it is almost identical to the original, however, I made the right receiver piece fit against the rear of the bolt in the closed position so the bolt cannot move. The gun has lots of waffenapt marks and a very nice German Police mark on the stock and bolt. I picked up a nice four magazine pouch with four MP-34 magazines all with waffenapts.

It looks really nice, and the MP-34 is a the Rolex of subguns.

I hate to be the guy that says this, but what keeps this from from working if the the bolt handle were removed? With no handle, it looks like the bolt would have full range of forward and reverse movement. Perhaps I am not seeing something?

Hi,

The MP-34 is indeed the Rolex of subguns. It fits together like a Swiss watch. The stripper clip loader is beautifully machined. The apex of Germanic craftsmanship.

You could remove the bolt handle but the piece of steel that I used for the top strip of the receiver is too thick to let the bolt move. The part of the receiver you see is only 1/2" deep and pinned and epoxied to the wood. The wood painted black to look like lower part of the receiver. The blued steel pieces fit tight to the cut off front of the receiver but are not attached. You can see from the picture that the bolt cannot move.

Thanks for your comment.

I have a 9mm MP-34o parts kit with all of the semi-mods done, as well as an 80% semi-lower. Both my upper and stock have the Portuguese crest, while many parts have waffenampts. My kit actually came with a canvas and leather case, something I had not seen before, as well as 7 mags with two mag pouches. I plan on getting started on building it this fall/winter.

Is your kit one of the ones that came in with the markings on the upper welded over? The markings on it look sorta like it was from that batch that centerfire brought in some years back.

If you are going for the full out display, I would recommend grabbing one of these while you still can: MP-34 Gunners Kit

Thank you for the information on the gunners kit. The MP-34 parts set isn't one with the welds and it does not have a bayonet lug. Everything was in almost mint condition. I bought it at a show and I have no idea where it came from. I couldn't pass up the great German Police markings.
