jim c 351
Sandy,Pet 1 listed the BAR finals under 11 Thompsons. The "Monitor" went for 62,500 plus 15 %.The Winchester went for 30,000 plus 15 %The Group went for 27,000 plus 15 %.I considered bidding on the Winchester until I read the rules, then decided against it.Jim C
darrylta
I didn't see photos of the Winchester BAR. If it was an original example, the price wasin the fair range ballpark. I wonder what a documented original Monitor would go for these days?Jim's gun went for quite the hefty price. OCM
As far as I could tell the 18 was original Winchester, 30+ is a good price for that. With the issues on the Monitor, I 'm surprised on the high price.Darryl, I've heard a asking price on a Monitor at 65K, but no information on it. I'd always thought the Monitors were in the 85-95 range , but this was years ago. If Jim's " Monitor" can pull 62 + 15, I'd certainly think the original Monitors would be in the 6 digit range or damn close.I should of made a stab at that Winchester, I 'm a little out of steam these days. Got enough projects going on.. OCM
USMC0802
The Winchester was listed as having been refinished - but it was pretty subtle in the description and I missed it myself on the first read-through. Having watched BARs pretty close for the last couple of years, original finish WRA with no big issues probably wouldn't exceed $40k unless it had some special history. I wouldn't feel bad about not buying that one.
johnsonlmg41
The Winchester has a repro flash hider, non matching bolt (not NS marked), barrel date seems out of line for serial number possibly? Likely many internal parts do not match as well. Butt stock may or may not be original? Obviously the sling is not correct, but any period sling is a $100 bonus even if it's not correct. I'm no BAR aficionado, and that's what's obvious to me. Fake Monitor $70+ I guess I will never comprehend that? I would put that in the mid 20's cool shooter grade West Hurley commemorative type collection? WWI gun prices are effectively on the decline for the most part since 07' and the drop seems proportional to the physical size of the gun?
