Inflation

Recommended Posts

the way i look at it by the time im old enough to buy a thompson (im 18) the price will be so inflated i wont be able to afford one, so the answer to my problem is one of you guys just give me yours, right?, seriously though do you think prices will climb to the level where the average person cant own one and a few collectors will be buying them up

do i have a snowballs chance in hell? http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif

DDay-

There are plenty of 21 year olds running around on $20,000 Harleys, or driving $30,000 cars. It's done by financing, which is made possible by establishing good credit.

I'd suggest starting to work on building a good credit history NOW, along with a good work history. Keep from getting silly about spending on stuff that doesn't matter, and don't get anybody pregnant (which will probably put your dream of a Thompson back about 20 more years).

Sure, you're going to pay interest. Why not?

And unlike financed Harleys and cars, you won't have to pay thru the nose to keep your Thompson insured for driving on the road.

don,t get discouraged about the future. spend your money wisely on things you can get your money back out of now, and then when you find the one you want sell everything you own like i am now to get it. it easier to have a savings in the form of a full gun safe than in a bank. maybe youl get lucky like me and find an individual with one at a decent price , if 10k can be considered decent http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Very good advice.

While others are dumping money into flashy cars spend it on a Thompson.

After 5 years when they have paid off their cars, you would have probably doubled your money on your Thompson. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

QUOTE (LIONHART @ Feb 8 2004, 08:25 PM)
Best thing to do is, get a good job and save! Financing is one way, but it's always better paying cash. To many things can happen. Illness, loss of job, ect. Cash is best.

Lionhart is right about paying cash. Do it if you can, but if it's a choice between A: Thompson and a debt, or B: no Thompson and no debt, I'll take choice A.

And Jim's advice about them paying off their cars in 5 years, while the value of your Tommy doubling, fails to mention that their cars will then be has-beens, out of style, and worth about half what they paid for them (if that).

You should invest in a Thompson, which is not a has-been, but a Classic. Who knows what the future holds, but for 83 years, it has yet to go out of style. You already know the history of their increasing value.

I got my 1st WH for $400 aproxamately aprox eleven years ago, a new Khar; even less likely to work flawlessly is in the $900 range for comparable model. The prices just keep going up, but think of it this way I've never known gun prices to permently drop. Sure some previously rare guns in this country were suddenly white elephents for a time becouse of new import laws but these same guns devoid of burocratic markings are now sought by colectors all the same. Guns can be considered an investment that you can have fun with and with reasonable care often get your money back or more.

Second Amendment is exactly right in pointing out that the cost of Full-Auto guns (and all guns) can be, and are, greatly influenced by State and Federal laws which, increasingly, since 1934, have played a most unwelcome part in the lives of all law-abiding gun owners. Yes, curios and relics (and all older guns), like all collectables (antiques) would have continued to increase in value anyway, but not at the incredible rate seen since the 1986 gun control law, which forbids the new manufacture/importation of machineguns and their parts, for the U.S. civilian market (only). http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif Therefore, the law of supply and demand, always in play, has been dabbled with, altered, by our big-brother government. We, especially in the U.S., like to think of our country as the most unfettered experiment in free enterprise. However, law-abiding citizens lives, economics, hobbies and ultimately, our life, liberty and pursuit of happiness are being fooled with in the name of 'public safety' by well meaning fools in our legislative houses. If you value your guns and your unmolested right to own them, then you, DDayJune6, and all of us, should become, and stay politically involved, because the enemies of freedom are, and never rest in their zealousness to deprive you and all Americans of our funamental rights, guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution (and under a higher law of natural rights ,originating with our Creator)! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif So, therefore, I am not merely refering to prices on FA TSMG'S, but to our fundamental right to be free of egregious governmental influences in our lives, which are inimicable to our very existence as a free people!!! Join with the NRA and other pro-Second Amendment organizations. Pledge your treasure, time and labor, as the Founding Fathers did over 200 years ago (and our grandfathers, fathers, and brothers did) to secure your/our freedom. Be a real patriot, not one of the cowards who would give up essential liberties for a little security. As Benjamin Franklin said over two centuries ago, those who would do this, deserve neither security, nor freedom!!! Best Regards, Walter

P.S. "What can I do?", some will ask. We can: vote, write to our politicians, and organize to protect/restore our Second Amendment rights! Or, we can have another beer, or scotch, watch the football game, and think, 'someone else will take care of it, if it is that important.' And, so, we wake up one day to realize 'our' government has taken most of our freedoms away, soon after abolishing the Second Amendment, in fact, or by dint of incessant legislation, time, and apathy on our part! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/mad.gif

P.P.S. Then, no one, no matter which state you live in, nor the size of your discretionary spending fund, will own TSMG'S. They will be contraband! You will be a criminal, if you do own one!! In the impartial eyes of the law, you will be no different than the rapist, terrorist, child molester, or murderer in the cell next to yours!!!You, too, will be a felon!!!! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif

P.P.P.S. To those who think that my statments are alarmist, remember, Rome was a republic (as we are), before it became a dictatorship (The Roman Empire)!

I drive a 10 and 16 year old vehicles. No car payments, not into impressing the chicks, my insurance and excise taxes are low, and I bought 11 machineguns instead.

My vehicles still get me where I need to go reliably, they cost a minimum to keep repaired and my guns have doubled in price in the past two years, and one has tripled.

My vehicles are worth basically nothing, although they are good transportation and I'd drive either across the country if I had to. Meanwhile the guns keep appreciating. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Walter, Hate to say it but Phil may just be right. What have we gained by keeping vigil in this oppressive state? Maybe we should all just get out and leave the anti gunners here with the crimials that don't care about the gun laws. Maybe they would just kill each other then we can move back! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif

Sharing your frustration,

I have considered Fl. I will more than likely be inheriting a house in Zephyrhills (by Tampa) in the not to distant future. Maybe by then Earle will have a MG range all set up and I can go blast away. If I get down there early...mind if I look you up if I bring a trunkload of .45acp? NEVER forget how good you have it! Some of us may never know.

Green with envy,

Damon
