type 1 gas piston/op rod fix

Recommended Posts

There are a lot of M96s out there with the first type gas piston/op-rod . Robinson offered up a fix for this but most were never converted as Robinson wanted to charge for the fix. With Robinson not supporting the M96, I thought I post a fix from back then. The type 1 piston was held onto the op-rod with a roll pin that would work it's way out until it hit the inside of the gas tube causing a wear line in the tube. If left long enough it caused stoppages. I put a center punch in both sides of the roll pin and hit one side while supporting the other center punch there by spreading the ends of the roll pin. This kept the roll pin centered. When replacing the roll pin I just squeezed the end with pliers and pushed it out.
