sarge912
Hi, I'm Scott.I picked up a Thompson T1B14 (Auto Ordnance) this week in a trade.I have wanted one since I was a kid watching Sgt. Chip Sanders on Combat.Hopefully you folks will not mind a few rookie questions.I want to polish the innards a bit and wonder if anyone has a few tips on the best parts to polish? (and what should be left alone.)Any brand of ammo work best for you?I know that the book says no steel but wonder if Aluminum is ok? I have seen a lot of talk about replacement springs and I am wondering what the current best practice is? Does anyone currently sell the nylon buffer or does someone have a template for making my own? What is the thickness? Thanks for any input you may be able to provide. sarge912
One other question.I reload for my other .45'sAnyone have a favorite recipe that they might wish to share? Thanks, I have read that others like the Winchester as well. I an not a huge fan of White box but maybe the .45 is better than the 9mm.
Speeddemon02
I prefer S&B now for all my pistol caliber shooting now
giantpune
I'll probably get flogged for saying it, but I've been feeding mine the absolute cheapest steel cased crap I can find. Imported Wolf. It handles it fine.
95mustang
Reloads with 230 grain plated copperOr powder coated 230 grain lead cast bulletsOn top of 5 to 5.4 grains of w231.My tm1 runs excellent on it.Never tried the steel case stuff Aluminum runs fine .I prefer the OEM springs with a longer charging handle.Others have had really good results from the ex pull spring replacement.I tried the mcmaster carr setup with springs and buffer pad but found I was having fail to feed a lot. Once the action started to get dirty a bit (around a couple of mags thru it.)mine runs almost flawless on the OEM springs.Any issues with feeding are generally mag related. jojeep
Check to see if if the Feed Ramp is smooth.Sometimes they have rough machining marks.I polished mine when the Barrel was off to have access from both ends.Polished it with a Dremel with a flex shaft using the polishes and grits that came with the Dremel kit. Oldtrooper
You might want to stake your extractor ... They have a tendency to pop out with feed jams and can jam back into your receiver.

Porschedog
I'll probably get flogged for saying it, but I've been feeding mine the absolute cheapest steel cased crap I can find. Imported Wolf. It handles it fine.I’ve run Wolf in my 1927 carbine and 1927 pistol. So far so good. Yeah it’s dirty, but. I clean them after a Range day anyway. Baltimoreed11754
You revived an old one porschedog but I’ll chime in. After installing the reduced power springs and buffer my AO 1927a1 sbr seems to eat any of my reloads just fine. Usually run 200 gr rnfp lead bullets but have used swc and pc bullets. With the oem recoil springs I was having weird primer indentations too but now my primers look normal. I don’t buy loaded cf ammo except for my .380 ccw and 9mm military pistols. Can’t afford it except an occasional box or two.
Toprudder
I picked up an Auto Ordnance not long ago. It looked like it had hardly been shot, and I’m suspecting everything is stock. I was a bit worried it might not like my reduced recoil loads (200gn plated bullets and Clays powder) but it shot them just fine. I have no intentions of using full power loads in it as a result, no reason to beat it up unnecessarily.
