michaelkih
So I love my Colt BAR, and it is running great. Out of 400 rounds though, it did jam 3 times the exact same way. Bolt goes back, goes forward, grabs a round, chambers a round, and fires a round. Then it extracts the round but obviously not al the way, because the bolt goes back, then goes forward, feeds a new round almost into the chamber, then gets jammed on the case that it never fully ejected with the rear of the fired case sticking out of the ejection port. It's the same every time, and is an easy jam to clear. Could this be a worn extractor spring? I can feel the extractor on the bolt, and it is very easy to move. I know on some guns though this is normal, and with other guns it is almost impossible to move with your finger. I know that's easy to swap out. What about a worn ejector? Thoughts? Junkyardslug
Sounds like insufficient gas. At the range you can adjust the gas regulator to the next size up. Make sure you clean all the ports in the gas system (one from the barrel to the gas tube bracket, the one from the gas tube bracket to the gas tube, the 3 holes in the gas regulator, and not as critical, the 6 vent holes in the top of the gas tube behind the regulator)
Mongo
Is it an A2 or the original 1818 trigger group?
Black River Militaria CII
First, three failures to eject out of 400 rounds is not symptomatic of anything really unless they all happened within in a few rounds of each other and continue to happen. Did you look at the rim of the case that failed to eject to see if there was evidence that the case had stuck and the extractor tore the rim a bit and lost is grip on the rim during extraction? Maybe just a slightly stuck case that slowed the recoil a bit? maybe slightly underpowered cartridge due to whatever?BAR ejectors are notoriously fragile and prone to malfunctioning.Replace the ejector just to eliminate it as a source of the problem. michaelkih
Thanks Bob. I have a new extractor. extractor spring, and ejector in the gun now. It is an A2 now
MGMike
It's "short" recoil. Cause: weak cartridge, fouled chamber, or partially clogged gas port. You didn't say what kind of ammo you were using, but that's the most likely. M
Rebel Rifle Ordnance LLC
This was happening to my colt as well. I thought it was a gas issue but turns out it was my reloaded ammo. Bullet OAL was at standard 3.32 inches but this BAR likes 3.30". Pushed the bullets down a bit and it runs fine.
Normal1959
OK for the FNG's...................................Don't use reloads and don't use steel cased.EricWhewwwwwwwwwwww i feel better now.
RoscoeTurner
No FNG to machine guns or reloading. Quality reloads work just fine. Be sure to match loading specs of M2 ball.

More factory safeguards built into the production of (FACTORY) ammo. Several extra weights checks and laser probe checks. The odds are always better with factory ammo. That does not mean you cannot go a lifetime with no issues using reloads.
RoscoeTurner
The only squib load I have ever had in 40 plus years of shooting was with fresh GI issued factory ammunition.
michaelkih
Forgot to follow up. I replaced the extractor spring (Bought a pack of 10), and I have shot about 800 rounds since then 100%. PPU and American Eagle. All 150g. This gun runs perfect now. I love this gun!
