I am having a problem with a drum for a PPSh 41. When I try to wind the drum spring for loading, the "locking lugs" do not not engage well in the slots, causing the drum spring to unwind. Each "click" is not nearly as "positive and audible" as in my other drum. Any thoughts or sugestion for a fix? Its all but unusable in its present state, as you have to hold the center when its under pressure for fear of it breaking free and unwinding violently.

Watch those fingers !
Sounds like maybe the lugs are worn or full of grease and crud. If you are mechanicly inclined, disassemble and clean.
PPSh drums are still kinda cheap if you shop around. might be good idea to buy a bunch and pick and choose the ones that work best.
